Finally position the mouth by drawing a line between the bottom of the nose and the bottom of the chin. This line will give you the position of the bottom lip. Draw the top lip just slightly above this. You can give a hint of the bottom lip with one short line.
Also at this stage you can simply draw a straight line from the tip of the nose to the bottom of the chin. Add the bottom of the jaw by projecting a line form slightly above the oval and then curving it into another line that basically transitions into the chin.
For some simple shading with no gradients you can add the following: 1 Small drop shadows from the hair on the forehead and sides of the face 2 Tiny shadows around the eyelids and top part of the white of the eyes 3 Inner parts of the ears 4 Bottom of the nose 5 Large shadow on the neck from the the head
Step 1: Draw a small circle near the top of the paper as a guide for the top part of the manga boy’s head. To draw the circle, first make four marks to determine the height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines.
On the bottom end of the lines, draw a small circle as a guide for the knee. Pay attention to the size of this circle in relation to the top of the leg. Don’t draw it too big. Step 7: Under the knee, draw a couple more lines as guides for the lower part of the boy’s leg. The line on the left should be pretty straight.
Curved the lines near the middle to create the knee section. Curve the line under the knee, on the left side, to create the calf muscle. Make the bottom of the shape right before the foot narrow. Step 15: Darken the shape at the bottom for the boy’s foot. Make the line curvier at the bottom for the foot’s sole.
The bottom edge of the forearms should be along third head-height-mark. Notice how the lines for the forearms slope to the left toward the front of the leg. Below the wrist, draw a small, oval-like shape as a guide for the hand. The left edge of the hand should graze the side of the leg. That’s it for the guides!
As the first step, we will draw the eye. I draw the eyelashes, usually starting from the left side and then go down to the right side. Since this is a male character, the eyelashes will be kept pretty simple because if you draw too many, it will start to look like a female’s eye.
Next, we start to draw the nose and the forehead. I don’t have any exact measures of how or where you start the bridge of the nose and forehead, but you can always correct the lines later on if a feature seems out of place.
Start to draw the lips following a downward curve rather than just drawing everything in a straight line. Next, follow the line and draw the chin.
Moving on to the neck, following the back of the head -line. Keep it subtle just to give a hint of what it could look like in the end.
Here then, you draw the jawline. At first, it is not very precise. So you can just sketch, trying to find the look of what it potentially may become as the final result—just feeling how it should go or how it could go.
As you can see, even though we didn’t have any rulers or guidelines or anything, you can draw an anime face from a profile view just by drawing the face and the eyes first.
