A Certain Scientific Railgun is the first manga spin-off and follows Misaka Mikoto, the level 5 esper also known as 'Railgun', in her own adventures, separate from her involvement in the Index series. Her story focuses more on the Esper side of things and takes place before and during the events of Index.
Regardless of quality, Index is still the main series. Railgun might handle certain arcs (and characters) better than Index, but the latter is more relevant when it comes to worldbuilding, plot development, and character follow-up.

Watching A Certain Magical / Scientific Series in its chronological order is highly recommended. It has a higher emotional impact and preserves the mystery of the rest of the seasons. The bonus episodes and specials hold no relevance to the main story. They could be watched at the end or be skipped altogether.

This is a completely separate sub-story from the others that focus on the behavior of the accelerator. To be able to fully comprehend what’s happening, you must see at least the initial season of A Certain Magical Index.
Following the initial season of the series, the anime adaptation of the follow-up manga, An Uncertain Scientific Railgun, began.
One of the first episodes from the Index franchise that we will be discussing will be the one that began the whole thing, A Certain Magical Index . The show is based on Kamijou Touma’s experiences as a student at the highly technological Academy City.
The Certain Scientific Railgun is the manga’s first spin-off. The story is more focused on the Esper side of things and is set before and after the index’s happenings.
The act of watching A Certain Magical/Scientific Series in its chronological sequence is highly suggested.
Moshi Moshi everyone! I'm Garima. I'm always in the world of fiction! Be it books, movies, comics, games and anime generates all sorts of weird, interesting things that I could never find in any other media. I've been watching anime since my school days and honestly it is one of the best things that has happened to me.
After rescuing Last Order and subsequently taking a bullet to the head, Academy City’s top-ranked esper rests in the hospital. But Accelerator’s recovery is cut short when a mysterious girl carrying a photo of his little clone companion asks for help.
A certain scientific accelerator... Isn't accelerator the main (and a damn good) reason to watch this masterpiece? besides him (and his badass laugh), the animation is great, not to say masterful, the chara design is just so great and the soundtracks are really good (it depends). This sequel is a real masterpiece that everyone should watch.
Well shit... and here I thought Index was the weakest link in the Toaru franchise all this time. This edgefest certainly takes the cake. Right out of the dumpster.
Some animes are difficult to figure out where to start and what is worth watching. These Animes have a Watching Guide. I'm only adding the Season where the story begins to keep the list short and they are sorted in Alphabetical Order. I'll keep updating the list as I create/find new guides, so check it out every so often.
A Certain Scientific Index's Touma Kamijou may as well be a stranger for everything you're about to learn about him. Touma Kamijou is the main protagonist of the anime A Certain Magical Index and is a very important character in the series's spinoff, A Certain Scientific Railgun. As many know, this leading character is the first door fans ...
One of the most obscure side story spinoffs in the Magical Index series is that of A Certain Academy Index this short story is a parody based on the series's universe that features Touma waking up to a rule that makes everyone in Academy City play the role of a character from Academy Story.
One of the main reasons for the evolution of the Magical Index series's art style is partially Touma's fault. Illustrator, Kiyotaka Haimura remained so unsatisfied with Touma's design that he kept changing it until he reached a much more deformed look that became the Touma that is seen in the novel's now.
Like other characters of the Magical Index series, Touma is referenced within quite a few different anime. In one episode of Nyan Koi! the main character asks the viewer who is the character that looks like him, as he looks very similar to Touma and even almost uses Imagine Breaker before being cut off.
However, due to the premise and setting for the Magical Index story it was changed so he would actually fit into the story. Funny enough, this isn't the only reason that his design was changed.
One gag that Touma's name follows is the way that the other characters pronounce his family name. When other's pronounce "Kamijou" it has different meanings that actually coincide with certain parts of the character. One example is when Kaori says it and believes that it translates to "One who purifies God and slays Demons.".
Funny enough, Touma doesn't follow this rule when it comes to his given name, as Touma doesn't mean anything special even when spelled in Kanji. As fans know, he carries divine abilities that are called the blessings of God which is the complete opposite of his average given name.

Although she’s not much of the fighting type, she supports Judgement with her excellent computer skills.
She’s normally calm and polite, but when around Touma is quick to assume and occasionally acts childish. Stiyl Magnus: The first antagonist that Touma meets, and a former friend of Index. He is an expert in fire magic and runes. His appearance, attitude, and penchant for smoking make him seem older than he looks.
