The Rising of the Shield Hero was created by Aneko Yusagi, with the initial web novels being converted into light novels. The original series lasted from 2012 to 2015, but the light novels, which started in 2013, are ongoing. The manga adaptation began in 2014 and has so far amassed 19 volumes.
The Saga of Tanya the Evil is another isekai anime that, like Shield Hero, features a protagonist who will do whatever they must to survive and prove the world wrong about them. This series' star is even darker than Naofumi; rather than being jaded by events beyond his control, he is a ruthless antihero who makes for a compelling watch.
Fans of Shield Hero will find plenty to like about similar isekai anime, but they can also expand into the world of medieval history anime series such as the famed Vinland Saga, based on Makoto Yukimura's ongoing seinen manga of the same name.

Goblin Slayer isn't isekai, but it has the "another world" feeling to it. TitaniumTits says. Both are fairly dark stories but we see the evolution of their relationship as the story progresses. Shield hero is an isekai but it feels very similar to the adventuring style of Goblin Slayer.
MaxymusPrime says. both are incradible shows period. They are in the same genra but they have a diffenrent take on the Isekai genra. Both well executed and deserve a watch.

The eponymous Shield Hero is a formerly everyday Japanese teenager named Naofumi who, like most heroes in an isekai story, is summoned to another world full of medieval-esque fantasy. The three other young men who are brought along with him are given particular offensive weapons, with Naofumi being the only one with a defensive weapon (a shield).
Kinema Citrus is the production studio behind the anime for The Rising of the Shield Hero, and it's this version of the story that's really made a successful (if also notorious) splash. By bringing a closer eye to the series than ever before, it also brought with it more scrutiny to certain elements, especially among Western audiences.
He became a common enemy of the heroes by wanting to kill them. They automatically became a team in order to take down this enemy, so Naofumi did nothing besides mocking them. But it’s okay, since character motivations make little sense in general.
Naofumi is constantly told what to do, instead of thinking for himself, and is then praised for doing what he’s told. -Buying the slaves was not his idea, it was proposed by the slave merchant.-Doing the missions that help the villagers was not his idea, it was the villagers asking for help.
After the second monster invasion, they clearly need the Shield Hero, because he’s the only one who is not incompetent.
Something everyone could have used since day 1. And essentially Naofumi didn’t have to do a thing about clearing his name. He could have sat on a bed for months and just wait for the queen to solve everything.
As the Shield Hero, the weakest of the heroes, all is not as it seems. Naofumi is soon alone, penniless, and betrayed. With no one to turn to, and nowhere to run, he is left with only his shield. Now, Naofumi must rise to become the legendary Shield Hero and save the world! Source: One Peace Books.
Ironically, Naofumi’s furries do not correct him on this obvious hypocrisy and instead support him, while also making fun of the Spear Hero. This is only making the hypocrisy bigger. Naofumi eventually saves the life of the thot that accused him, after spending the whole show in trying to make her pay.
