what do you think is the best anime op of all time? Anonymous This is obviously a question that’s going to vary from person to person and it’s completely subjective, but I’m giving my vote to Neon Genesis Evangelion’s OP, A Cruel Angel’s Thesis/Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis.
The tea time girls still have it! Despite being the oldest anime among the nominees, K-ON!! managed to emerge victorious and claim the Anime of the Decade Title for the 2010s, defeating A Place Further than the Universe in an epic all-Cute Girls doing Cute Things/Slice of Life showdown!

With his pride wounded, Hinata works to surpass Kageyama but ends up finding him on his own team when he joins Karasuno highschool's Volleyball team. Haikyuu!! 's gripping story, when mixed with exhilarating action makes it one of the best anime series to come out in the 2010s.
8 Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Kimetsu no Yaiba is one of the most iconic anime to have come out this year, with a story that sees humans defend themselves from demons. The story sees Tanjiro go out on a quest to restore his sister, who was turned into a demon, back to normal.
10 Haikyuu!! Adapted from Haruichi Furudate's manga, also known as Haikyuu!! , this story revolves around the life of Hinata, who transforms his middle-school Volleyball team and manages to carry them to a tournament. Unfortunately, Hinata's team is crushed by Kageyama at the Tournament.
In steps Miyazono Kaori, a girl best described as strong-willed, determined, and a bundle of joy. Kaori sees to it that Arima plays like he once used to, and in the midst of it, their lives change forever. Your Lie In April is easily one of the best anime of all-time, let alone this decade.
Although Assassination Classroom may appear to be a dull anime, it is filled to the brim with intense and emotional episodes. On top of that, every episode provides a great dose of laughter and makes sure that every second is cherished. Truly, Assassination Classroom is a wonderful experience from start to finish.
My Hero Academia has been a phenomenon as both a manga and an anime. The story continues to be a success and will likely stay that way in the years to come as well.
Shigeo Kageyama is called “Mob” because he looks like an indiscernible member of a crowd (or mob). Mob is a normal boy living a normal life at his normal middle school with a normal crush on a pretty classmate. Mob also has incomprehensibly powerful psychic abilities. From the same original creator as One Punch Man, Mob Psycho 100 inevitably drew comparisons to ONE’s first series, but both characters approach the concept of overpowered main characters in equally fascinating ways. Where Saitama’s ridiculous strength results in a quest for meaning in a world of meaningless boredom, Mob’s powers are a vehicle for him to become, as his mentor Reigen would say, the protagonist of his own life. With its inventive animation, expertly timed and crafted humor, and deeply moving story, Mob Psycho 100 represents the very best this medium has to offer. – Cayla Coats
Fate’s growth as a universe would not have happened without the success of Fate/Zero in 2011. Fate/Zero is definitely one of the best anime series of the past decade.
But by that same token, there’s a really hopeful sense of beauty underlying everything. It’s pretty rare that any sort of media nails depictions of mental illness.
Yoshihiro Togashi would’ve been revered as a landmark mangaka if he’d simply stopped with the fantastic Yu Yu Hakusho. But if you thought that YYH provided a fun take on the familiar battle genre, then Hunter x Hunter will be perfect for you. This 2011 series (the second adaptation of the manga, with this incarnation following the story of the manga for its whole run) is fantastically animated, wonderfully cast, and emotionally poignant. In fact, there may not be another anime story that warrants rewatching as much as HxH, as it constantly seeks to not just reinvent the formula of shonen storytelling as provided by other works, but its own formula, too. It’s a refreshing masterpiece from one of the most talented manga writers/artists to ever live. – Daniel Dockery
2015’s Anime of the Year Shirobako is a workplace drama that highlights the struggles that young millennials go through in today’s work force. Its main cast is a group of women who made a pledge to work in the anime industry and their goal is to achieve this dream no matter the cost.
What is friendship? Is the core theme of this modern classic. 2017’s best anime also known as Yorimoi for short does its best to unpack that question in a comedy adventure genre. At first glance its hard to see what makes Yorimoi so special, but the more that you watch you get to see stereotypical anime tropes in characters get subverted and scrutinized. We also get to see the tough parts of friendship and how misunderstandings can lead to huge setbacks.
Chihayafuru is about ambition and what hard headed ambition can cost you as a person. The sacrifices made to achieve your goals and if the goals one sets for themselves are indeed worth all the pain and endurance needed. It’s also about love and friendship and how all of these play a huge role in everyone’s life. 9.
Bunny Drop is a slow paced, intimate drama about a young man who isn’t ready to be a single Dad adopting a young girl and the dynamics that come with taking such a huge step. The show is wholesome, sad, joyful, cute and as dramatic as the premise suggests.
Naoko Yamada announced herself to the world with her serial directorial debut and smash hit K-on! A comedy moe show about cute girls (eating cake and drinking tea) playing pop rock in their high school band. The influence that this show has had on not only the anime industry but culturally cannot be measured. K-on! Goes down as the most influential anime of the decade, sky rocketing and cementing its studio Kyoto Animation as the juggernaut of anime that it is today.
Chihayafuru is one of the most stressful anime I have ever seen. A sports anime at heart, the show is centered around an obscure traditional Japanese Card game called Karuta. Like all good sports anime the drama and suspense surrounding the characters and their lofty pursuits are what the show is really about (I still don’t understand the rules of Karuta lol).
It’s also a really good peek behind the curtain at how anime is actually made, sprinkled in with a few cameos from real life anime professionals. Shirobako is not only one of the best anime of the decade, it is also one of the best anime ever made!
One of the more complicated Anime of the decade is The Ancient Magus’ Bride. Released in 2017 with a controversial story, the series is one of the more problematic Anime that still manage to make it work. A high school orphan is unhappy with her life. Receiving no support from family or friends, she decides to auction herself off to the highest bidder. The person who ends up buying her is a large and ancient Magus, or sorcerer, who has an animal skull for a head.
The superhero Anime is a little bit X-Men and a little bit Harry Potter. The setting of this story is a school that trains superheroes.
Image via Netflix. Totally a quest story, The Seven Deadly Sins has a kingdom that needs a band of knights for its redemption. The series starts as the leader of the group seeks out and recruits each member back into his cause. Together, they must save the kingdom they once protected from the clutches of a demon horde.
One of the gateways into the Anime medium for most Western audiences has always been Dragon Ball. The Anime series based on a Manga is hugely popular worldwide as one of the first Anime exported from Japan for mainstream networks worldwide.
Aggretsuko: The Best New Non-Action Anime Of The Decade. Aggretsuko debuted with original animated shorts in 2016, then a worldwide debut as a Netflix original series. The series is a different kind of Anime than most, making it incredibly special.
Debuting in 2013, based on the Manga of the same name, Attack On Titan is a brand new anime that quickly became a classic. Both hardcore Anime enthusiasts, as well as newcomers to the medium love the fantasy-themed Anime. It’s unique story and world-building truly sets it apart from traditional Anime content.
Anime has been around for a long time. While a lot of Anime classics are continue their runs to this day, there are many new Anime carving a place in the canon. They now hold a special place in the hearts of hardcore fans and new audiences. These new Anime range from adult action affairs to classic Manga stories, ...
The very first anime premiered in theaters in 1917, these being mostly short and silent films focusing largely on Japanese folktales. However, the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 and the following war-torn years left little footage of these early works behind. A few full-length movies appeared in the '40s and '50s, but nothing like the scale of what was to come.
The 1960s were the origin of television anime, and the most defining works of that decade are based upon how they continue to influence anime today. Astro Boy, premiering in 1963 to immense popularity, was the first anime that aired with a half-hour slot and continuing story -- the blueprint for anime today. Astro Boy was significant for its message of peace and unity in a country still torn by the aftereffects of war. Its influence has been carried into video games, an animated feature from Sony Pictures and a future live-action film. The show proved that television anime could be successful, paving the way for the rest to come.
Serial Experiments Lain followed Akira into the cyberpunk genre, likewise taking a philosophical look at themes such as social exclusion and identity as main character Lain navigates a world that blends the line between reality and a global communications network similar to the modern internet. There is a distinct psychological horror aspect to the show, once more pushing at boundaries to see how far anime could go.
The 1970s were marked by anime that would have a profound effect on international and Japanese politics. The influence of Doraemon cannot be overstated. Hugely popular in the '70s, it received multiple remakes and assorted media, including films, a video game, a card game and a musical. Doraemon is the closest Japan gets to a national figurehead, and the character was appointed as the first anime ambassador by the Japanese Foreign Ministry in 2008, even making an appearance at the 2016 Olympics to promote this past summer's games. Doraemon is one of the highest-grossing series of all time and promoted a message of unity in post-war Japan.
