There are many anime I could recommend that are similar to Shield Hero in many respects, given that Seiyu is a vast genre. DANMACHI, as it's called in shorthand (Is it wrong to try to pick up girls in a dungeon?) is more dungeon centric but, like shield hero, has an MC following the hero-2-zero path.
the main point why shield hero good (at least the web novel version) is because character development was really well done. not just the shield hero but the other characters also developed well and with each interaction they influence each other.
Fans of Shield Hero will find plenty to like about similar isekai anime, but they can also expand into the world of medieval history anime series such as the famed Vinland Saga, based on Makoto Yukimura's ongoing seinen manga of the same name.
Any anime fan who's caught up on Shield Hero is encouraged to try these anime series while waiting for Season 2 to begin. The Rising of the Shield Hero is a popular isekai anime starring the down-on-his-luck protagonist Iwatani Naofumi, who was summoned to the kingdom of Melromarc as the legendary Shield Hero.
With ages ranging from teens to over 60 years old, fans chose The Rising of the Shield Hero to stand above the others for depicting a hero overcoming outstanding odds, the cute additions to Naofumi's party such as Raphtalia and Filo, and can't wait to see what comes next.

Conclusion: Is The Rising of the Shield Hero worth watching? Yes, it's one that fans of isekai and even those who aren't a fan of the genre should give a chance. I would say to watch the entire first season before you decide whether you enjoy it or not. If you still aren't into it by then, it's probably not for you.
Shield Hero's "harem" is actually a more meaningful adventurer party with minimal wish-fulfillment elements. The only nod to traditional isekai harems is the tanuki girl Raphtalia's fixation on Naofumi, but she adores him deeply as his first companion and loyal friend.

The Rising of the Shield Hero has been steeped in controversy from the very beginning, owing in large part to how its main protagonist, Naofumi Iwatani, is falsely accused of rape.
Again, the novel features writing with sentence structuring similar to that of a children's book (aged 8-12 or younger).
I absolutely love The Rising of the Shield Hero. Too many authors have been relying on the stereotypical isekai anime plot line where an ordinary person dies and gets reincarnated or is magically transported to another world where they are given OP abilities and save the world, often building a harem while they do it.

The Rising of the Shield Hero Along the way, he develops a relationship that is sometimes romantic and sometimes paternal with Raphtalia, a girl he purchased from slave traders. This, along with many other story elements, are not exactly the most savory of content and maybe outright unappealing to some viewers.
The original Rising of the Shield Hero web novel did finish, so there is a conclusion to the story out there. However, the light novel has significantly deviated from the original web novel, making that ending not canon.
While Naofumi himself became an immortal god and is thus still alive and well, he left a human incarnation of himself in both his and Raphtalia's worlds at the end of the main series. The version of him living in his original world evidently married Raphtalia there, although Atlas interfered during the ceremony.
Before the second monster invasion, they had the excuse of not needing the Shield Hero for defeating the monsters. After the second monster invasion, they clearly need the Shield Hero, because he’s the only one who is not incompetent.
People were really hyped during the early episodes of The Shield Hero because of the Outrage culture. Just like it happened with Goblin Slayer some seasons before, the premise triggered the social justice warriors, which caused the defenders of the light novel to write long essays concerning how they are full of crap as usual, ...
He can take it like a champ. -The villains stand still while the heroes talk in the middle of the battle. -The heroes use mostly long ranged attacks, even when their weapons are short ranged. This makes the battles dull, since they are just standing still and fire projectiles.
Oh, but wait, not everyone is going to die from the monsters. Only most of them. Yeah, only most of them will die, that really makes a difference. Also, even if they are here to kill the heroes, they fight the monsters and help the heroes to level up and become harder to kill, although they are here to kill them.
The Shield Hero has a perfectly easy plot and you have to be really stupid not to get it. 3) The plot. During the initial episodes, the plot was edgy, dark, and kind of depressing in tone. It falls apart after the fourth episode by becoming another generic empowerment fantasy.
And don’t get me started on why the Pope didn’t confirm the death of the 2 heroes before trying to kill the other 2, or how they never show how Sword and Bow survived the explosion. Eventually, even the queen plot armors the heroes from the church, and proves how the allegations were false by using a slave tattoo.
The plot follows Naofumi Iwatani, a college student who is suddenly transported to a magical fantasy world. After discovering the Book of Four Heroes in this world, he is greeted by three other men and is designated as the titular Shield Hero. Unfortunately for him, everything goes downhill from there.

The story kicking off with the hero being falsely accused of rape was especially controversial, with many seeing it as being at odds with the zeitgeist of the #MeToo movement, if not wholly opposing it.
Isekai is easily the most ubiquitous genre in today's anime and manga. While this means the genre has a huge audience of avid fans, it also means that it has plenty of detractors, as well. Often seen as incredibly cliche, if not boring, the faraway fantasy worlds that isekai transports its heroes and viewers to all seem to blend together ...

dboisvert says... Both anime are based heavily on rpg games. The rising of the shield hero is more story driven than combat driven and it is very entertaining thus far (S2). Goblin Slayer has a slightly darker story, but is based more around the combat and fighting.
