re:zero and overlord are both banger shows that are absolutely worth trying. obviously if you've watched say, three episodes and you don't feel a hook then don't be afraid to drop them. Every show represented in Isekai Quartet is worth it IMHO, though I would say, I kinda thought the Overlord dub was a bit garbage vs original. Re:Zero?
The source material is a light novel not the manga and yes it is ahead when compared to the manga. The anime is further compared to the manga but.. Overlord is adapted from a light novel.
The series is a good choice for action enthusiasts who live for brutal fight scenes and can tolerate the use of some profanities. Having said that, Overlord paints a unique picture accompanied by some well-constructed characters.
Go watch that instead. Overlord is the kind of anime you begin watching with some reservations. "A popular MMORPG game traps its players inside and the players now have to play the game where the consequences are quite real". Overlord | 2018 | R | – 3.9. 7. Why is “Overlord” rated R? The MPAA rating has been assigned for “strong bloody violence, disturbing images, language, and brief sexual content.” The Kids-In-Mind.com evaluation includes several extended gruesome and violent sequences, zombie gore, a near rape and at least 28 F-words.
As we can all agree, Overlord is a very enjoyable novel with many great features. However, one thing that makes me especially appreciate Overlord's story is the lack of romance.
Great Atmosphere. The strong writing for the side characters helps Overlord feel like a fully fleshed out universe, but its in the delivery which helps cement Ains' glory, so to say. The series is an excellent adaptation in terms of the bleak, but exciting atmosphere it wants to portray.
Gintama is probably my favorite anime ever. It contains almost all kinds of tags (well, maybe not all but it's a lot). One of the best comedies ever. The firstly episodes, the anime was somewhat boring but if you keep patient and continue to watch, it will eventually become much better.
Parents need to know that Overlord is an extremely gory horror/war movie set during WWII that involves the reanimated dead: twisted, crazed monsters (some of which are burned with flamethrowers). Expect nonstop blood, guns/shooting, explosions, and dead bodies.
The language is not bad if you're used to it. I do have to note that the expiriments implied could be a little disturbing for a lot. Overall, Overlord is an awesome, gory, zombie thriller that is great for mature teens.
A minimum 16+ for me.

Makes Sure to Take its Time. The inherent beauty of Overlord is in its execution. Because it is a story of a conqueror, Ains is given very little time in the series at all. He's a powerful figurehead with very little room to advance, so the series takes its time in developing a compelling world around him.
Originally created by Kugame Murayama with illustrations provided by so-bin, Overlord is a series of light novels beginning in 2010 under Enterbrain. The series begins when the popular MMORPG Yggdrasil is shutting down their servers after 12 years of service.
The major difference here is that Overlord isn't about the struggle that other Isekai series cling to. It's not a hero's journey, but a conqueror's.
But Overlord doesn't do this, and in fact, fans don't know the human behind the series that well at all. Not only do fans never see the face behind "Momonga," there's no clear indication of his status in the game before the series begins.
Kugane Maruyama and so-bin's Overlord has quickly become an anime phenomenon ever since it began in 2015. The light novel series took the roots of the Isekai fantasy subgenre and has since crafted an entirely new experience fans have loved. Overlord 's anime series has stood out from other isekai offerings such as the more famous Sword Art Online ...

Look, ‘Seiken no Blacksmith’ is on this list because it is similar to ‘Overlord’ in its settings and genre. By that, I don’t mean to say that the anime is as good as ‘Overlord’ but still is fun enough to give it a watch. If you want something more serious and interesting you can skip this one. Using the devil’s power is forbidden. This was done after a tragic war broke out in which the power of the devil was used. Cecily Campbell is a knight. She has an old sword, given to her by her grandfather, which seriously needs some repairing. She is searching for a blacksmith when she stumbles upon a duel between a man with a strange sword and a ruffian. The ruffian used the devil’s power but the man defeats him. Turns out he is a blacksmith by the name of Luke. Soon, the duo begins their adventure.
This anime is a story about Satan’s attempt to conquer Ente Isla by annexing the four continents. He isn’t alone on this; four demons help him. However, on his course, he faces opposition and confrontation from Emilia, who kills some of his companions. He is forced to retreat and finds himself transported to modern Tokyo, Japan.
The story is set in the 22nd century on an island similar to the Republic of Ireland. In this series, the word is administered by Fractacle, but Fractacle is a satellite-based virtual reality and content delivery system.
This anime, also called the King Of Darkness Another World Story: Slave Magic is an anime that revolves around an acute socially withdrawn gamer named Takuma Sakamoto. He is transported mysteriously to the world of cross reverie, his favorite MMORPG.
Naofumi Iwatani, a Japanese youth with a shield as his only weapon, gets picked to be a defender of the world. He was chosen to be the world’s cardinal heroes and fight waves alongside three others from parallel universes. Only Naofumi is given a defensive weapon while the rest have weapons of attack.
The Hero Association was created to fight against monsters and villains who intend to destroy the earth. One-Punch Man tells the story of an unassociated superhero called Saitama from City Z. He has a jaw-dropping ability to defeat any opponent with just a single punch.
A great and disastrous war known as the Valbanill war occurred 44 years ago. In a bid to survive, the majority of humans signed the Demon contract. However, the contract had humans sacrificing their bodies to become demons.
The anime tells the tales of a 29 years programmer known as Ichiro Suzuki. He works for a company that produces MMORPGs. But as the company prepares to release two new Massive Multiplayer Online Role-playing games, he is assigned to implant bugs in them.
While Tensura has its overpowered character build his world from the "ground up" (that is, starting with nothing and constructing a civilization from scratch), Overlord has its main character take over the world from the top down (already having unheard of power at his disposal and many underlings to do his bidding).
They have a little difference though, since in Overlord the lead is a not-so-evil villain while in SAO the main character is one of the good guys.
With over 20 million players worldwide, Elder Tale is one of the hottest online RPGs. At least, it used to be only a game, until the fateful day that tens of thousands of players became stuck in the virtual world, unable to log out. For these would-be knights, healers and magicians, Elder Tale is no longer a hobby, it’s a reality, complete with tasteless in-game food, revivals upon death, and boring NPC conversations! With no other options than to accept their fates, the analytical Shiroe, perverted-and-proud Naotsugu, tiny and adorable Akatsuki and other new friends must adjust to their new lives in Elder Tale, avoiding player killers and monsters along the way!
In both shows, at first it's unknown why the players can't leave the virtual world. These shows have a similar setting, but not a very similar story, still, if you liked one of these, you might easily like another.
While Overlord is based on a game like a universe and That Time I Got Reincarnated as Slime is more a fantasy universe with goblin, monsters, and spirits they both show the adventures of the protagonist finding their way through an unknown world.
