Plot

After defeating the Oni, the ninja have become lazy and out of shape. They decide to search for a new threat to face, but Ninjago is at peace. They find their next quest when Clutch Powers discovers an ancient pyramid. The tomb is a prison for a snake queen named Aspheera, who is unwittingly released by the ninja.

Reception

Dan Bradley for TheHDRoom commented on the duality of the season, specifically in terms of the split structure that presents the Pyro Vipers (or fire serpents) and the Blizzard Samurai (or ice warriors) as the two groups of antagonists. This split theme of fire and ice was compared to Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire.

In 2020, Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu was nominated for two awards in the Animation Series category of the Leo Awards for Art Direction and Sound.

Who wrote Ninjago?

Long ago, Ninjago was written by the Hageman Brothers, Kevin, and Dan. The show reigned supreme. But then, starting from Season 8, Bragi Schut wrote along with the Hageman Brothers. Then starting from Season 10, he is now the main writer. I think that the change in writing is what put off the show for most old-ti.

Did Cole lead the ninjas?

Yes, I know. Before Kai (who was never the leader, to be honest, just the main character of the pilot season), before Lloyd, Cole was the leader. Wu saw the leadership potential in Cole. I would kill for an episode where Lloyd is out of the picture, and Cole has to lead the ninja.
