To get the placement of an anime mouth on the head you can vertically divide the face up into eight parts and position it just a bit above the first division from the bottom.
Drawing the mouth in this way can be used to show a somewhat scared or stated expression. However if you want the character to look really scared you can actually draw the mouth the same as for the yelling expression.

When dividing the head with an open mouth into eight parts ignore the extra height added due to the jaw being lower down . Instead estimate where the bottom of the jaw would be if the mouth was closed (as done in the example above).
If drawn correctly mouths can really help convey a subject’s mood. They are also the facial feature that can change the most due to a particular expression.
When the mouth is wide open as in this example you will also usually want to draw the jaw even further down than for an expression where it’s open just slightly.
A good way to draw them is to first have the area between the nose and the chin as pretty much a straight line and then use this line to help you position the lips.
Anime mouths are generally highly simplified compared to real mouths (drawn with the bare minimum of details). This tutorial provides a good template for drawing them and for achieving an anime look. There are however many variations in the anime style based on the character type and the artist’s preference.
Drawing from the side view is more complex then from the front and 3/4 views. Though the mouth itself will pretty much look like half of the mouth from the front view (slightly narrower) you will also generally need to show the lips and nose.
When drawing in this view it’s important to note that the “bottom lip area” refers to the actual red part of the lip and not the area where the chin starts to curve into the lip. You can see this in the example above.
You can instead start by placing the eyes below the vertical halfway point of the face, position the nose halfway between the top of the eyes and the bottom of the face and position the bottom lip halfway between the nose and again the bottom of the face.
Generally the placement of the nose will be with it’s tip just above another 1/8 of the way up from the bottom of the lip (about 1/4 distance up from the bottom of the head). Again remember that this can change depending on the character and style.
Placing the mouth on the head in 3/4 view is pretty much the same as for the front view. You can again divide the head up into eight parts (vertically) and place the mouth slightly above the first division from the bottom.
The most prominent and the only visible part of Anime / Manga lips is the line between the upper and lower lips. The actual mass of the lip is not visible in Anime lips.
Though Anime/Manga style of illustration is far more simple than the lips that we illustrated above, the structure is the same . The only thing that differs is the manner of illustration. To see how the lips differe, compare the two illustration above.
Drawing the lips in Anime / Manga style is much less complicated than drawing realistic lips / mouths. However, it is always helpful to learn drawing real mouths first to familiarize yourself with the realistic mouth’s foundation and structure.
You can use basic shapes when sketching the outline of the mouth. Make it look like the lower half of an inverted egg to bring out the desired shape. The horizontal line that forms the top half of the mouth will act as the upper lip.
To sketch the tongue, draw a line that curves upward at the bottom of the mouth. It should start from one end of the mouth to the other. For the teeth, you’ll need to draw a line that curves downward at the top of the mouth.

The inside of the mouth should have the darkest shade while the tongue should be slightly lighter.
The good news is anime mouths are easier to draw compared to real structured mouths. You also won’t need to put much emphasis on drawing the lips since you can use a few lines to sketch your character’s mouth.
