For some reason, the anime decided to keep Usagi as 14-year-old, but aged Mamoru to 17. Because we know explicitly that Usagi is 14, it is just very jarring to see her dating a 17-year-old, even if it is only a year change from the manga. Those are the ages of the main characters of Sailor Moon.
Usagi is, in both the manga and the anime, 14 years old and a second-year junior high school student. Mamoru, on the other hand, ranges between him being 16 at the start of the manga 1 to 18 at the start of the anime.
In 2002, Cartoon Network dropped the series and the rights expired despite the fact that the series was still very popular. This was due to the fact the DiC/Cloverway failed to renew the license for the anime and because of the disputes between Toei Animation and Naoko Takeuchi over the meddling of her anime series.

So we definitely know, from a Japanese society stand point at least, that Usagi being married and pregnant at 22 would definitely be outside social norms. The Queen seems to have a hair-color crisis… The next obvious question, then, is if there's something significant about the age of 22.
