To draw serious anime eyes, first draw a horizontal line with a slight curve. Draw a short line coming down off of one end at a 45-degree angle to finish the top of the eye. Then, draw a short horizontal line centered under the first line to make the bottom of the eye. Draw an oval between the two lines to make the iris.
Widen the eyes to create a look of surprise. Draw the upper eyelids higher and the lower eyelids lower than normal so there are gaps between both the tops and bottoms of the pupils and the eyelids. This will make it look like your anime character is opening their eyes wide in shock.
If you want the light source to be on the left in your drawing, draw the big circle on the left side of the iris and the small circle on the right. If the light is on the right, swap the circles. For lighting that’s above the eye, draw the big circle at the top of the iris and the small circle at the bottom.
Draw a downward curving line for the upper eyelid. Make the length of the line as wide as you want the eye to be. Make the line thick near the middle, and then have it get gradually thinner the closer it gets to the ends. 2. Sketch a horizontal line that curves up at the ends for the lower eyelid.
If the light is to the left of the eye, draw the big circle on the left side of the iris and the small circle on the right. If the light is to the right, do the opposite.
Community Answer. In anime, characters often have colorful eyes depending on the art style. If you want to draw in a specific art style (eg: Black Butler), then pay attention to how dark or light the eyes are and how many highlights you should add.
Here is a fantastic Anime & Manga Eyes (for Boys / Men / Male Anime Eyes) that is very easy to draw with very impressive results. The previous Manga tutorials were for drawing Male Manga Eyes and Female Anime Eyes and How to Draw Anime Faces and How to Draw Anime / Manga Hair and Drawing Anime Lips & Mouths.
Begin drawing the male Anime eye by drawing a thick line for the upper eye. Don’t make the line too straight, give it a little bit of a curve in the middle.
Remember that Manga male eyes are always “narrow” and “thin” compared to female eyes. Place the lower eye line not to far below the top eye line. (See Drawing Female Anime Eyes Tutorial and compare the differences in eye construction)
Now add the iris by drawing a circle covered partially by the eyelid. Also emphasize the eyelid by drawing a thin line just above the upper eye line that was drawn in step #1.
Just as any Anime/Manga eye, the glare in the eye is always present and the male eye is no exception. For proper understanding on how to place glares, below we have place the glare instructions from the female eyes drawing tutorial.
Add the pupil in the center of the iris. Always place the pupil behind the glare.
Finalize the eye by shading the iris. Note: Don’t forget that male eyes still have eye lashes … so still include them as we did. Other male eye variety following the same method.
If you follow the picture you just add four straight lines just like the picture.
I like the style of thickening the eyes you do not have to thicken the eye lines as much as I do.
Ad an eyelid and maybe a little shading also the eyebrows on male characters are usually thicker than women's.
Step 1 - Sketch the basic eye shape. Draw the basic shape of your eye, a fat oval. This will act as a guideline for the rest of your eye. Keep your pencil pressure relatively light in case of mistakes. DRAWING TIP: The closer the basic shape is to a circle, the cuter your character will look.
Add the circle inside the eye, and notice that my circle is cut off at the top. If your circle is not cut off at the top (bottom or sides) it can make your character look shocked or wide-eyed. DRAWING TIP: Keep in mind that the larger this circle, the more relaxed or cute your character will look!
Using a light pressure, shade in the sides of the crease near the inner and outer corner of the eye , avoiding the middle. DRAWING TIP: The higher an eyelid, the more relaxed or sleepy a character looks.
