Escanor officially died in the season four episode “Mortal Enemies”, which was the 20th episode of the season and the 96th overall. The episode aired on May 26, 2021.
The Lion's Sin of Pride, Escanor, died after the battle against the Demon King as his body disintegrated when he used his life force to boost up the grace “Sunshine”. He used the borrowed grace to help defeat the Demon King.
At the end of the anime, Escanor is still alive, but in the manga, he dies. In the manga, he uses Sunshine to the height of his ability to defeat the Demon King. In the end, it's too much for his body to take. Using so much power used all of his life force, and Escanor's body is turned into ash.
With the series continuing further for a few chapters it might have looked like there was a last minute revival in the works, but unfortunately this wasn't to be the case. Escanor missed out not only on the final reveal with Merlin, the battle with Chaos, and the future generations of the Sins being born.
Escanor’s heroic death, which happened right after the clash with the Demon King, was a shocking moment, whether you’ve read the manga or just seen the anime. Escanor was a fan-favorite character and seeing him leave, although it was the most epic way imaginable, was a big blow for everyone.
Escanor’s death takes place during the so-called Demon King arc. The arc begins with Meliodas and Elizabeth, their curses are now broken, returning to Liones along with the rest of the Sins.
Well, this is a rather tricky one, eh? In theory, sure, Escanor could come back to life. Seven Deadly Sins is as supernatural as you can get and weirder things have happened in the show, so reviving a character wouldn’t be all that strange, especially with a sequel currently being published. But that seems to be the problem.
This led the king to issue some Holy Knights including the former Great Holy Knight Zaratras, Merlin & Meliodas to restrain Escanor. Due to his pride, Escanor didn’t stand down. Even though Merlin and Meliodas successfully restrained him, Zartaras suffered some injuries.
Escanor’s Personality. Escanor had somewhat of a split personality. The power of Sunshine activated during the day and deactivated during the night, so Escanor had two personalities. During the night, Escanor was this frail man who showed no pride and loved to do poetry.
During that one minute, he was known as The One. His mere hand-chop called Divine Sword, ESCANOR had the power to hold off Meliodas in his demonic state – a state which was feared among goddesses and demons alike. Escanor uses Cruel Sun & Divine Sword Escanor against Meliodas.
Joining the Seven Deadly Sins. On the day of Escanor’s execution, Meliodas cancelled it and took Escanor under his wing instead. Thus, the lion’s sin of pride joined the Seven Deadly Sins. In that period, he also received his sacred treasure Rhitta from the king.
On account of hurting the Holy Knights including Zartaras and disrespecting the King Bartra, Escanor was charged with a death penalty along with the tag – the Sin of Pride, Lion Sin Escanor. Just like the rest of the Seven Deadly Sins members, even though Escanor’s sin justified his personality, he was framed.
When Meliodas betrayed the demons and sided with Elizabeth & the Goddesses, the balance was distorted. Gowther executed a plan to alter everyone’s memories which ended the Holy War. READ: Here Is Everything About The Demon Clan.
Escanor’s power – Sunshine, activated during the day and kept rising every second. During high noon, when the sun was in the perfect position for one minute, Escanor had power comparable to the likes of a god. During that one minute, he was known as The One.
Elizabeth Liones, princess of Liones Kingdom, embarks upon an expedition to locate the most brutal criminals Seven Deadly Sins (Nanatsu no Taizai).
Lion Sin of Pride, Escanor was killed in the fight against Demon King. His body fell apart as he used his own energy to increase”Sunshine,” the power of “Sunshine”. The grace he borrowed was used to fight his opponent, the Demon King.
Escanor wasn’t killed by anyone else, and he died by himself. He took the loan of “Sunshine” and went up against Demon King (Zeldris). After the victory, Escanor had used up his energy and was killed as the power returned to Mael.
Escanor was without doubt one of the most powerful characters from the series. There were many titles he held, like ‘the strongest man alive’ and ‘the strongest Holy Knight’.
When Escanor was scheduled for death, Meliodas stopped the sentence and took Escanor under his wing. So, the lion’s act of pride was added to with the Seven Deathly Sins.
One day, Escanor was causing problems in Liones after getting rid of a monster that caused riots in a town. Several Holy Knights, including the Great Holy Knight, Zaratras, tried to stop him from believing to be responsible because the people of the villages and towns were terrified of him. All the knights ended up being seriously injured. There, Escanor meets Merlin and Meliodas who asked him to join their knightly order, although the two were forced to restrain him by order of the king to stop his havoc.
Escanor dislikes going out in the daytime due to his personality change. He has the largest symbol, in proportion to his size, which is located on his back. At night, he is known to have the lowest power level of not just all of the Holy Knights in Britannia, but lower than anyone else's recorded value at only 15.

Escanor and King are both members of The Seven Deadly Sins, and as such, their relationship is that of comrades. Due to their limited interaction with one another, it is currently unknown how close they are compared to other members of the sins, however like Ban, King is very wary of Escanor during the day because of his power. Escanor himself even reprimands him and Diane for not taking the war with the demons seriously. However, when they fought the Demon King together, they prove capable of fighting effectively side-by-side with King's drastically greater power upon fully ascending as the Fairy King. As Escanor was about to die, he expresses his congratulation that he and Diane were about to be married and regretted he couldn't attend but wished they would find happiness as King was visibly saddened by his death to where he cried, showing that they do care for and respect one another considerably.
During his Fight with Izraf, Escanor showed his power by easily dispelling the Darkness of the Vampire King with his sheer presence. He then used his Sacred Treasure to lazily cleave the Vampire King's torso, which quickly regenerated, but having come into contact with Escanor's axe, began to burn him.
Escanor, along with the rest of the Seven Deadly Sins, was summoned to a castle to meet the Great Holy Knight Zaratras after a mission in which they defeated the Troll Queen and caused the accidental destruction of the Great Druid Altar. After they found him dead there, all of them were ambushed by the Holy Knights. When Meliodas ordered everyone to disperse and regroup later, Escanor obeyed and went into hiding, forming a secret bar hidden deep within the mountains, and even establishing himself as the owner and master of the bar. It is unknown how successful Escanor's secret bar was, but it was seen to be well stocked and maintained, and Escanor himself even stated to have made deliveries at times in the past, which implies that his business was somewhat thriving at that time.
During the new Holy War, Escanor wears a long-sleeved white jacket that is open at the front with white fur trimmings on the side of the jacket and white spiky fur on the neck of the jacket, and an ornamental golden handguard.
Type of Hero. Arrogant Protector. Escanor , also known as The One and the Lion Sin of Pride, is one of the main protagonists of the anime/manga/light novel series The Seven Deadly Sins. He is a member of the Seven Deadly Sins, and is considered the most powerful of their ranks. During the day, he becomes immensly powerful, and at night, ...
Escanor's personality changes drastically along with his strength between day and night. At night, he is skiddish, submissive and unfailingly polite. Whereas in the day he is arrogant, boastful, and domineering, he also takes it upon himself to deliver judgement to those he feels have sinned, such as those that toy with feelings. Both personalities seem to be truly him and he remembers everything he does in either, though at night he has chastised himself for losing control during the day.
At night, however, his power is the weakest due to the setting of the sun, rendering him powerless and unable to use his magic. In battle, Escanor primarily relies on the rising of the sun to use his magic, Sunshine for battle. As when the sun rises, his magical power and size grow greatly.
Currently Escanor's appearance is largely the same as his appearance in Vampires of Edinburgh, with the addition of a mustache and pair of glasses. Escanor's attire is a suit commonly worn by bartenders and although slightly baggy, does appear to fit his non-sunshine form far better than his previous attire.
Even the likes of demons refuse to believe he is a human. During the day Escanor's pride and attitude is such that he never holds hatred in his heart to anyone, even Demons, as he doesn't hold hatred to those beneath him, he only pities them. This quirk has given him immunity to a Commandment.
Escanor's might is considered monstrous, both by enemy and ally alike. Estarossa, one of the strongest members of the Ten Commandments, refused to believe someone so powerful was a human and was rendered paralyzed in fear of Escanor's might. Even Meliodas, the leader of the Sins, has acknowledged Escanor to be far stronger.
