Based on the publisher's previous work on the Souls and Bloodborne series, Code Vein has garnered the title of "anime Dark Souls," referencing its familiar play style but a new coat of paint. And while there are some features to set the series apart, the game still takes clear influence from one of the publisher's most successful franchises.
Unlike the main line of Souls games, which focus on a lone fighter, Code Vein gives players the chance to be accompanied by an AI companion. Characters that travel alongside the player will be prepared to fight in combat, while also providing a limited-use revive spell.
While still relying on gothic ruins to fit the post-apocalypse and vampire-centered story, Code Vein eschews realism in favor of an over-the-top celebration of anime style and tropes.
There is no official word on a Code Vein sequel, but if Bandai Namco decides to make one, it will need to flesh out a few things that held the original back.
Code Vein is a sexist action RPG about post-apocalyptic vampires that borrows liberally from Dark Souls, while speeding up and complicating its combat in ways that I really like. The game's cast is gender balanced, with a roughly equal number of male and female characters, and the female ones play an important role in driving the story.
This IS made by the same developers as God Eater and Code Vein. Also to answer the question of the thread: Code Vein and Scarlet Nexus are not even remotely similar in any way at all. The only thing they share is a developer.
While it might have come out a few years after Dark Souls 3, it's still reasonable to say that Code Vein is noticeably much easier to look at than any game in the Dark Souls series, although FromSoftware's other outing Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is also gorgeous in a completely different way.
