1. There's a massive lack of end-game content (nothing new, it's Pokemon). 2. The story pacing is awful; it's especially bad since you can't skip the lengthy cutscenes.
Pokemon Sun and Moon the anime is the worst the anime has ever been. I can defend it. You give 3 reasons why they aren't an I'll give you 3 reasons of rebuttal and my own three reasons why it's horrible. Although some might think that I am forcing opinions, but if anyone agrees, we are having an intelligent argument.
There's nothing wrong with Pokemon Sun & Moon serie but I felt that Ash's character design in Pokemon Sun and moon is absolutlely terrible because his face is very very ugly and his body is very skinny and acted more like a child than his prevoius past series.
The main reason why Sun and Moon got so much hate initially was only because it happened just after arguably the best series of Pokemon ever- XY and Z. Almost everything in the XYZ series was Perfect! The animation, battles, team flare arc, shipping etc.
The Sun & Moon Pokémon anime was divisive among fans and critics alike, who both praised the change in tone as refreshing, but disliked the art direction for feeling it had become too cartoonish.
The show definitely does not have the action-packed animation that was in the previous season, Pokémon the Series: XY, but the animation in Sun and Moon is still extremely charming and great in its own way. The storyline in Sun and Moon is what you'd expect from a Pokémon anime.
The most common reason for lackluster animation in a weekly series is time restraints and the increasingly bad scheduling that's making anime more and more difficult to produce. So Pokémon Sun and Moon's second solution involved teaming up with a leader in animation software, ToonBoom Animation.
Overall, yes it's bad. However it does have some good episodes and good pokemon. The main reason why Sun & Moon is so bad, is the art style. Here's a side by side comparison of XYZ(which had the best art style out of any Pokemon series) and Sun & Moon.
Yes you can skip Pokemon Sun and Moon and go straight to Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon but I find that the story makes a little more sense if you play Pokemon Sun and Moon first.
The animation is different and Ash looks different because of new technology and techniques designed to make the animation. Although it may seem “weird”, I only recently started watching Sun and Moon and was ASTOUNDED.
Old pokemon seasons were not terrible, neither bad. They were perfect, especially the first seasons and this is the reason why pokemon became so popular and the company today has the opportunity to earn money without too much effort, something that is bad for us but for the company is not such a big problem.
It's actually really good, the style is jarring but not bad and like many things in sun and moon the animation itself is beautiful and filled with a lot more life and personality than the past. The first battle with team skull was freaking beautiful with how fluid and dynamic it all was.

The supposed Pokémon Z never got released. Instead, the franchise skipped the third installment to start developing Sun and Moon (Generation 7).
Content wise, USUM was just a little bit better. USUM had some more side activities, including Mantine Surf, the photo club, and the the Ultra Wormholes. Its stuff like those that I feel the games need more of. USUM did also have a better post game with the inclusion of Team Rainbow Rocket's story.
The filler in Indigo League If you want to watch the first portion of Pokémon as efficiently as possible, here are the episodes you can skip without missing really anything: 8, 9, 17, 18, 20, 33, 34, 36-42, 44, 47-49, 53-56, 60, 62, 65-67, and 69-75.

The mask flew off of his face by accident while he helped Ash deal with an Ultra Beast invasion.
Like those past team members, Litten had its own struggles to overcome, eventually holding a fierce rivalry with Kukui's Incineroar that would come to a head in the final battle of the Pokémon League.
9 Perfect: Mimikyu's Growth. Over the course of the series run, Jesse's Mimikyu had a unique relationship with Ash's Pikachu that hadn't been seen by Pokémon before, particularly with other Mimikyu. There had been instances of jealousy between Pokémon for how one is liked more than another, but Mimikyu took it to a whole new level ...
He appears to the player character as the man running the Poké Pelago but is given some form of closure in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon when he returns to Lusamine with no memory of his family or past life.
As Alola is shown to be quite far away from Kanto, Ash's home region, it makes sense that his Alolan Pokém on would be better equipped to stay with Kukui instead of Oak, but it also means they won't be able to bond with the rest of Ash's Pokémon.
Ash has a long history of releasing his Pokémon when they are needed for something greater than battling, from his beloved Butterfree to the infamous Greninja release. Naganadel is a bit of a unique situation for Ash, as he has released it on more than one occasion.
Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon don't have this benefit. Instead, the games look exactly the same as Sun and Moon because they are running off of the same engine. People who see this aren't going to be impressed (especially those who are obsessed with graphics).
It's no secret that the 3DS is running on dated hardware and it limits the visual presentation that the games can have. That's not to say that Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon look terrible visually, there just is no improvement to entice more people to get the games.
This communicates an interesting message from Game Freak. It is no secret that the Pokémon games are extremely popular among young children. However, there are plenty of adults that are still into the series.
But for some reason, Game Freak decided to make Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon on the 3DS. This console is already going out of style ever since the Switch launched, so it's perplexing that such a big franchise would still be coming out on it.
HeartGold and SoulSilver did it, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire did it, and there's no reason to believe that Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon won't do it either.
