Crunchyroll does not censor any content. We use the video as we receive it from Japan. If a different version exists in Japan, it usually exists exclusively for a specific station, and is not available to any other parties.
On your web browser, open Crunchyroll and sign-in. At the top of the page, click Profile > Settings. Under the Account Settings section, select “Video Preferences” to manage filters for anime and shows. Click the dropdown box that toggles the filter and select “Hide Mature Content.”
If something in censored, it's because that's the version that CR has received to stream (and it's likely the version that is shown on Japanese TV as well). At the same time, CR never goes back to add the uncut version when it becomes available.
So Crunchyroll can't get the uncensored version either because: 1. The Japanese TV channel holds the exclusive rights meaning that no one else can show the uncensored version. 2.
Despite releasing in 2013, some Attack on Titan fans are only now discovering the anime's censored violence in comparison to the manga.
I was watching highschool dxd and just found out that season 4 is censored on crunchyroll.
What's here on CR is 99.9% most likely uncut. You will see blood and what not. the Naruto shown here should be the same as the one broadcast on TV in Japan.
However, the actual reason for the censorship lies in the specific broadcast requirements of premium cable. The problem started when the Japanese premium cable network AT-X decided to air censored episodes of High School DxD to viewers who aren't paying directly to the premium cable channel.
However, not all streaming sites actually get to show the uncensored version, it depends on the type of contract they sign with the publishers. For example, you will find High School DxD on Netflix, but it will be the censored version.
Their content is censored. Just look at the 7 mortals sins, is just painful to watch with all the censorship. I subscribed thinking that the content would be unaltered... I was a fool... Unsubscribing.
Crunchyroll generally gets the broadcast version of most oftheir shows, so that usually means the censored versions. There are a few shows where they also have the uncensored ones
Other groups may have complained about Jojo's content - In 2008 Jojo was under fire for having Dio reading the Qur'an and containing fighting scenes played out ontop of, and destroying, mosques. Ref - These scenes had to be redrawn.
Here's what happened: sometimes, Crunchyroll only gets streaming rights to a show after the BDs have come out. This was the case for JoJo parts 1 and 2. In these cases, Crunchyroll will typically use the BD version rather than the TV version, since the BD version is almost invariably higher quality (Shaft notwithstanding).
There seems to be an extreme amount of censoring in Stardust Crusaders (black shadows, etc) compared to other anime or even the previous 2 seasons.
