Reviews

The Slayers is one of the few anime I'll ever give a 10 out of 10 rating to, and there's a reason it's my number one all-time favorite anime. Though a lot of it is generic fantasy and spellcasting, the characters bring the story to life.

How many episodes are there in Slayers?

Slayers is a 26 episode Japanese anime series, licensed by Central Park Media and later Funimation, as well as the first series in its titular franchise. Slayers goes for a swords and sorcery theme, with the spell-casting main character, mercenary and heroine, Lina Inverse, on a quest to stop the resurrection of the Dark Lord Shabranigdo and later, the evil clone of the red priest Rezo. During the run of the series, Lina's party gains several additions. Within the first episode, she gains the bodyguard services of a swordsman named Gourry Gabriev who wields the powerful Hikari no Ken (or "Sword of Light") and whose martial prowess comes at the cost of his intellect, giving the impression that he's a slow and gullible warrior. After Lina and Gourry manage to destroy Shabranigdo with some risky heroics, they encounter Amelia Wil Tesla Sayruun, the naive "Princess of Justice." The princess accompanies the duo in their quest to stop Rezo's evil clone, even learning some offensive spells from Lina to better help the party out. The trio's quest eventually leads them to the city of Sairaag, where Sylphiel Nels Lahda, a cleric and longtime admirer of Gourry lives. Sylphiel lends her prowess in shamanistic and white magics to the party and its quest, noting that her offensive black magic is so slow and weak as to be laughable. A few episodes into the series, Lina and Gourry encounter the human/demon/golem hybrid of Zelgadis Greywords. Zelgadis initially serves as a recurring antagonist in no small part to Rezo's claims that Zelgadis is trying to resurrect Shabranigdo. However, he is accepted into the party after the defeat of the Dark Lord Shabranigdo and when Rezo is revealed as the true villain.
