The difference is that Ao Haru Ride is more focused on the romantic aspect while Orange gives more weight to the healing process, and as such it's more dramatic. Both are totally awesome.
Although this anime was sad too in its parts. The reason why Kou had a change of personality when he came back to Futabas school, was the fact his parents divorced and his mother was very sick so she unfortunately passed away.
The only time their seen having a full one on one conversation is when the two are left alone in Kou's room and Futaba is congratulated by Aya for finally becoming Kou's girlfriend.

Unlucky for us, there is no official announcement about Blue Spring Ride Season 2 yet. From the rumor that we read, both mangaka and Production I.G. haven't secured the renewal of the new season. It left a bitter taste to us because it is a popular shoujo manga and deserves a continuation of the anime.
