“Komi can’t communicate” is sort of a gag manga, but with a pretty nice story behind it. The characters and their growth, Komi and how her relationship has grown with Tadano shows the classical example of friends and their importance in lives.
Directed by Kazuki Kawagoe for OLM, Komi Can't Communicate can now be found streaming on Netflix with a few more episodes of the second season left to air.
A plethora of wholesome and adorably awkward encounters, misunderstandings and shenanigans ensue as Komi tries to overcome her fears little by little. By the end, Komi has a whole list of friends who truly care about her and has made great strides in reaching her goal.
Yes, Komi ends-up with Tadano. Since Tadano was the first person to understand her, she trusts him. Tadano didn’t have any emotional feeling for Komi in the beginning, but later he developed feelings as he spent his days with her. This also led to Tadano randomly talking to Komi one day, and suddenly confessing his feelings for her!

Najimi's gender has remained a mystery throughout the manga, and they have been referred to as all pronouns. While they claim that their identify as a girl, despite being born a man, they have turned down a confession, later saying that they're in fact male.
When viewers first meet Komi, she's just entered high school. Her captivating beauty, combined with her perceived elegance and soft-spoken nature, immediately made her popular. Yet because of this, she is often regarded as too intimidating to approach and talk to, so her admirers do so from afar.
Komi Can't Communicate 's first post-credits scene shows Komi alone in her bedroom, reflecting on her progress and writing down how many friends she's made in her journal. The list reads: Tadano, Najimi, Agari, Yamai, Yadano, Nakanaka, Onigashima, Kishi, Chiarai, Sodona, Shinobino, Onemine and Otori.
There's no denying that Komi and Tadano have chemistry. Especially in the summer festival episode, they are bashful about being alone and Tadano tries very hard to not make Komi uncomfortable. Other characters notice their chemistry, too.
Komi still has a long way to go to reach 100 friends, but now she has both friends and admirers to help her along the way. Her inability to communicate has allowed for some adorably hilarious misunderstandings, and as a result her entire school sees her as a god.
Komi gets cat ears sometimes, when fe's curious or psyching femself up (going "hmmph hmmph" and puffing out air). It's cute when fe shivers like a chihuahua, feir entire body quaking. There's almost a pop style in how some of the fashionable clothes are shown off, with thick outlines.
Socially anxious high school student Shoko Komi’s greatest dream is to make some friends, but everyone at school mistakes her crippling social anxiety for cool reserve! With the whole student body keeping their distance and Komi unable to utter a single word, friendship might be forever beyond her reach. Timid Tadano is a total wallflower, and ...
Tadano's ability to understand people no matter how nonexistent or misleading their communicative abilities are is a gem. I enjoy seeing fem interacting with non-talkers like Katai's parents or comprehend garbled grunts or whatever. It doesn't really seem to get old.
The "It's Just a Festival" chapters from the manga were adapted into the anime, but there was a lot more to that story than what was shown. Translated as "Festival" and "Festival, Part 2" in the English version by Viz Media, the summer festival had an epilogue where Komi and Tadano joined Najimi and friends at a food place for drinks.
One chapter from the "Summer Vacation" story arc that was interestingly omitted from the anime is "A Hot Day" from Vol. 4, which was also one of the chapters that prominently features Komi's brother, Shosuke.
One of the more hilarious chapters from Vol. 4 that was also omitted from Season 1 of the anime is "Feelings." In the chapter, both Yamai and Nakanaka asked Tadano to teach them how to read Komi's thoughts through her body language.
One interesting chapter from Vol. 5 that was left out of Season 1 of the anime is "Typhoon." This chapter explored how Komi handled typhoons and it was also one of the few chapters that depicted Komi being able to hold a verbal conversation over the phone.
The follow-up chapter to "Typhoon" titled "The Weather Clears" was also left out of the anime in Season 1. After the storm passed, Komi and her classmates attended afternoon classes, and Yamai obsessed about seeing Komi's underwear.
When the father and daughter owners of the restaurant saw Komi and friends walk in, they immediately assumed Komi was the mysterious high school food critic known as "RamenCore." The daughter provided exceptional service to both Komi and Najimi wanting to get a good review while neglecting Tadano and Agari.
Another story from the maid café story arc that was left out of the anime adaptation for Season 1 is the "Bonus Communication: Sleepy Princess" story. In the story, Komi had a dream where she woke up in a palace that appeared to be inside a bat cave.
