Gantz is based on the best-selling manga by Hiroya Oku. The initial premise of the manga follows two characters who die in a train accident, only to awaken in a room with strangers and a mysterious black orb dubbed Gantz.
Like many series, Gantz chapters and episodes are broken into several unofficial story arcs. The manga itself however is divided into three Phases. Phase 1 which starts from Chapter 001 and lasts until Chapter 237 and is known as Missions. Phase 2 which starts from Chapter 238 and lasts until Chapter 303 and is known as Katastrophe.

Instead of leaving it open-ended, they created an ending. If you would like to continue where the Gantz anime really left off in the manga, you will want to start at Chapter 90. In the anime, anything that happens after episode 22 is not in the manga.

He resolves to no longer carry the burden. At the end of Gantz, Kurono is aiming to save the women he loves. It is only right before the final fight, when he says he cares about nothing in the world and only wishes that Tae-chan would come back, that he does.
The creation of the Gantz suits earlier in the series was in anticipation of this invasion: they would give humanity a fighting chance against an extraterrestrial enemy with advanced technology. So, although this completely changed the flow of the story, I feel it had to happen eventually to reach a real conclusion.
To some, this sounds like a terrible character trait, but it is a realistic one. Kurono constantly lost companions throughout the series, some of which were love interests.
The creators of Gantz were also bold in their willingness to kill off characters, doing this at the moment you least expected it, and to those who seemed the most untouchable–even the main character was killed off at one point (technically).
At the beginning of Gantz, Kurono was a total pessimist who would never risk his neck for someone else. As time went on, though, he became his old self, which his friend Kato always looked up to: the man that would save everyone and defy the odds, always succeeding in his task.
Gantz is a popular manga that has been in print since 2000. The creators of the series released the final issue in August 2013, and fans were anything but satisfied with the ending. Gantz was not afraid to push boundaries, offering an entertaining mixture of gore, sex, and philosophy between the front and back covers of each issue. It got to the core of what mankind is capable of, sometimes depicting characters going above and beyond for others, but more often showing the selfishness that is our desire to live.
This movie follows some of the key beats of the manga, with main character Kato dying after a knife attack and waking up with a group of strangers.
Gantz orders the team to go to Osaka and wipe out an invasion of monsters within a strict time limit. Against the advice of his group - who've all played the game before - Kato goes out of his way to save civilians who are being attacked. Kato also befriends a woman from a rival team called Yamasaki.
In Gantz 0's ending, the survivors are warped back to Gantz's apartment, and Kato learns he scored 100 points for the mission. He's presented with the option of earning his freedom and having his memory of the whole nightmare wiped, or resurrecting a dead player. Naturally, he decides to bring Yamasaki back to life.
Then the other players reveal the surprise plot twist that Kato played the game once before, but he didn't remember because his memory was erased.
Gantz is a blood-soaked manga filled with unique monsters, flawed heroes and high-tech weaponry, and its popularity has led to a successful franchise. It spawned a hit anime series that ran for two seasons, in addition to two live-action theatrical movies, dubbed Gantz and Gantz: Perfect Answer.
I want to give a shout out to this Gantz fansite called Gantz- la esfera negra. It has all the info you could possibly want to know about Gantz. The entire site is in Spanish but I think google translate can fix most of it.
