What you don't get, is backstory on the Borderlands itself. That, or any explanation for anything apart from what veterans of the Borderlands know and what they tell the MCs. You're left in the dark about the whole ordeal and the best you'll usually get is about what's currently going on, as in the current game.

Alice in Borderland's story is more plot-driven, more games-centric; there is no giant piggy bank or prize money, just a quest to survive and escape the mysterious Borderland. It's escapism loaded with entertainment, but Squid Game's story packs more depth, so the South Korean series wins this one.
Alice Allusion: The title is a pun of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Arisu is close to the name Alice. The final game of the manga is against the Queen of Hearts in Croquet, where the difficulty is not on the games itself, but the circumstances surrounding it.

And a bloody good start it is, because I love the shit out of the manga. The everloving crap out of it. So they would have had to make this all CGI, unfaithful and make it look like absolute fucking shit for me to hate it. Fortunately, there is no shitty ass CGI (That I remember), it's faithful, and it looks good.
Netflix made an live-action adaptation of the original work (filmed and made in Japan, Netflix is only the producers and distributor) if anyone is interested. Imo it's really good with acting, production and world building. It is confirmed for a 2nd season.
