The first talkie anime was Chikara to Onna no Yo no Naka (1933), a short film produced by Masaoka. There isn't an episode 0 AFAIK. Episode 1 is only 40 minutes long. So some sources split it in 2. When it aired, it aired as 1A and 1B, essentially being a double length first episode. I've heard of some versions calling them Episode 0 and Episode 1. So basically, it's the first episode and you definitely have to watch it.

These movies may have been made differently. But the story-telling and content was still the one who sowed the seeds of anime. Shimokawa and Kouchi worked with existing companies till 1921 when they decided to create their anime studios. Shimokawa started Kitayama Eiga Seisakujo while Kouchi created Sumikazu in 1923.

It’s impossible to catalog the numerous series and films that made their way overseas in the 1990s. Anime was a fertile market for American distributors whose only production costs involved re-recording/rewriting dialogue as well as editing content and timing. The other seminal anime series for American audiences of the ’70s was Battle of the Planets ( Science Ninja Team Gatchaman in Japan). The superhero/sci-fi series was immensely popular and was re-adapted in the 1980s as G-Force.
Character names were changed and certain pieces of content were either altered or removed due to American audiences’ sensitivity to violent or suggestive content. This was a standard practice for most anime series as they made their way overseas and it was a practice that wouldn’t change for quite some time.
