Another overrated project from Studio Ghibli. Their movies have notbeen up the standards of movies such as My Neighbors the Yamadas or TheCat Returns since 2012 with The Secret World of Arrietty. While The CatReturns wasn't that great, The Secret World of Arrietty was sosentimental, it's painful.

I think what bothered me about the movie were the amount of changes done to it. Changing the novel's setting from England to Japan while keeping some key British elements intact and condensing its incomplete supernatural story of 200 pages into a 2 hour movie was not a very wise choice.
