kakgurui is an anime about an approximately 17 year old girl, Yumeko Jabami, who’s addicted to gambling. expect a bit of gore, terrifying scenes and weird faces throughout the whole series. it’s definitely not the best gambling anime you could ever see. but other than that it’s not the worst anime at all.
It comes under the genres Mystery, Psychological, Drama, School and Shounen (just because the protagonist is a female doesn’t mean it’s a Shoujo anime).
Main Characters: Being a protagonist of a gambling genre, you are expected to be good at gambling, however, Kaiji is atrocious at gambling. He lost a game of poker in the first episode of the show, this is because he isn't a gambler, he is a survivor.
There’s not a huge storyline to the anime other than gambling but each time you watch Yumeko gamble, for me, it’s in a way refreshing and not recycled. Because although she does some of the same things, she also does some different things and all the characters are really different so it’s fun.
Animation is quite good too, All the realistic ( yet quite exaggerated) expressions on the characters faces feels so real, they show so much raw emotions you’d feel quite terrified yet amused. oh well, and quite uncomfortable too. the only problem about Kakegurui is. all of it is literally entirely wasted.
Yumeko, is similar, she stands out as a gambling anime character, in her case not because of her morality, but because winning is not the most important thing for her. that makes her a more interesting main character because we know she can lose at anytime as winning is not her main motivator.
