It depends on their age and their cultural background. Most parents might not have even heard of anime, and would probably not be able to distinguish between anime and cartoons. Although, I do have a friend whose mother is as interested in anime as he is. My mom likes anine.
First thing you need to understand is that anime is not a genre, not all animes sexualize their characters and there are all kinds of animes. The second thing you need to understand is that your kids are not stupid. Just because theres a sexualized female in an anime they watxh doesn’t mean they will take that as rule for real women.
Don’t show them any anime that are very long. While some shows like Naruto or One Piece may fit the bill in every other regard, the stories are drawn out along such a large number of episodes that it will put people off who are considering beginning the series.
The first and most important objective is to uncover what causes her to disapprove of anime in the first place. Before speaking with her, anticipate what issues she might have and be prepared to address them. Perhaps all she thinks of anime is that it is “hentai” when all you want to watch is Cowboy BeBop or Spirited Away.

My parents like anime. They don't like it as much as me, but they like it. Thier favorite anime series is Rurouni Kenshin. They watched all of the TV series, the movie, and the two OVAs. They also like all of Miyazaki's movies and they also like Peacemaker. My dad also sometimes reads my manga.

My parents, to put it shortly, despise anime in every way possible. Well, my mom does anyway. and she's the only one who counts, since my dad is always working and never here and doesn't care what I watch as long as it's not porno, extremely obscene, or on when he wants the tv.
