List of order to watch fate anime:
So if you want to watch the Fate anime series in order you need to follow this:
If you want to follow the “proper” order, you should watch first Fate/Zero, then Fate/Stay Night UBW from ufotable (not the movie version) and finally the movie Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel. However, ufotable put a lot of references in FSN: UBW that will fly over your head if you haven’t watched Fate/Zero.
The Detailed Chronological Order
Why Watch It? Arguably one of the best prequel anime out there, Fate/Zero is a great way to look at the Holy Grail War from the perspectives of more mature audiences . Unlike Shirou Emiya and his desire to be a hero, Kiritsugu Emiya has a darker look at the world – something reflected by most other participants in the war and certainly evident throughout the series. This stark change in tone makes Fate/Zero a worthwhile watch in the entire series.
Why Watch It? Despite reviews, Fate/stay night remains a decent introduction to the Fate franchise as a whole. It makes a fair attempt to summarize all the routes in the VN, leaving viewers enticed to play the game themselves. This is a great way for viewers to see whether Saber is their best waifu, or if they prefer being closer to Rin Tohsaka or Sakura Matou.
Fate/Zero once again takes place in Fuyuki City, a decade before the events of Fate/stay night. As this setting implies, Fate/Zero serves as the prequel to Shirou's adventures. This time around, Kiritsugu Emiya becomes a participant of the Fourth Holy Grail War.
Events of Fate/EXTRA Last Encore starts hazy, and that's by intention. In this anime, Hakuno Kishinami wakes up in a strange world accompanied only by a Servant. With no recollection of his past, he somehow apparently has to win the Holy Grail War and, hopefully, regain his identity in the process.
Unlike the waifu-focused premise of the Fate/Grand Order game, Apocrypha finally gives players a deeper look into the relationships of characters within the time period as well as the new cast coming from various timelines that have to participate in this war to the death.
Fate/Zero serves as a great third piece of media to bridge the main Fate/stay night story and its spinoffs. After Fate/Zero, fans may also choose to play the /stay night sequel, /hollow ataraxia.
At first glance, Unlimited Blade Works seems to copy the first few episodes of the original Fate/stay night adaptation. However, things begin to change when Shirou Emiya and Rin Tohsaka are forced to team up for their survival. This time around, Shirou begins to have a growing friendship with the more experienced magi Tohsaka. At the same time, Shirou explores his immense dislike of her Servant, the mysterious Archer.
Some of these most awaited anime sequels include ‘ Mekakucity Actors ‘, ‘ Saiki K ‘ and many more. Out of all these anticipated sequels coming out in 2019 and 2020, one that many viewers look forward to is the third installment of ‘Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel’ movie series that is scheduled for 2020. The currently running ‘ Fate/Stay Night ‘ ...
As I mentioned earlier, the game from which the anime has been adapted has 3 different timelines. A visual novel never really follows a linear pattern of storytelling and that gives it the advantage of portraying many different storylines at once. But unfortunately, an anime has to be linear with its storytelling and this is where most anime fail to be as good as the visual novels they have been adapted from, except for a few like ‘ Steins;Gate ‘. ‘Fate/Stay Night’ tries to take a well-rounded approach by involving bits of each timeline so that it is able to introduce the viewers to the Holy Grail War and at the same time, move the story in a linear understandable direction. Despite being an overall above-average anime, many still believed that ‘Fate/Stay’ was not really able to do full justice to its source material.
If you go by the release dates of each season, then ‘ Fate/Zero ‘ was not the first one to be created. But chronologically, if you go by the timeline of the anime, this is the first part of the story that introduces you to Fourth Holy Grail War. ‘Fate/Zero’ is also known to be one of the best parts of the entire series for its deep characters ...
At the end of the day, ‘Fate’ is a long-running franchise and there is absolutely nothing wrong with jumping right into one of its alternate stories just to get a small glimpse of its vast universe. It all comes down to enjoying the show to the fullest and not stressing over whether you’re watching it in the right order or not. So whatever approach you take towards watching it, just make sure that you’re entertained. Because frankly, that’s all that matters!
Apart from this, there are other parallel universe adaptations like ‘ Fate/Apocrypha ‘ and ‘ Fate/Extra Last Encore ‘ that can again be viewed at any given order. These versions are not as good as the main series but can still be enjoyable if you’re familiar with a few characters. Also, these alternate versions have been produced by different studios, so don’t be surprised if you notice a variance in its animation compared to the main series. When it comes to ‘Fate/Apocrypha’, though it is set in an alternate universe and has an entirely different story that does not revolve around the Holy Grail, I would still recommend watching ‘Unlimited Blade Works’ right before it just to have a bit of an idea about what is going on.
Like many other spin-offs and side story adaptations of the main anime, ‘Fa te/kaleid liner PRIS MA ILLYA’ is just another one on the list where Illya transforms into a magical girl and is assigned the task of collecting magical cards that are scattered all over the city. This version of the anime can be viewed anytime but it would be better to go for it after you’re done with the main series and you’re just looking for something more to fill your time.
The overall official runtime of Fate is 94 hours and 3 minutes when all the series, movies, OVAs, ONAs, specials, and the recently released movie, Fate/Grand Order: Shinsei Entaku Ryouiki Camelot 2 – Paladin; Agateram, are added together.

Following a near-death experience, he meets Saber, an artificial personification of the legend Arturia Pendragon, designed to help the participants.
In some ways, the Fate Anime Series is radical; it is a death match between seven masters and seven servants who team up in pairs, one mage, and one servant. It’s a battle to the death. The last one standing receives the Holy Grail, a magical item capable of granting any wish possible, but here’s the catch: the servants are ancient beings who have mastered the ultimate magic. Gilgamesh is one of the most powerful servants of all time, and this is where the fate anime Gilgamesh begins in a modern setting. He was also known as the “First Fate Hero.”
