In anime and manga, YURI means Girls' Love (also written as "Girls Love" and "Girl Love"). YURI is a literary genre or media that showcases romantic relationships between female characters. YURI is also known simply as Girls' Love (GL).
Broadly, yuri is any story with lesbian themes. To really understand yuri, it's best to start with the four demographic genres. Most manga in Japan is categorized not by topic, but by the demographics of audience: for girls (shojo), for boys (shonen), for women (josei), for men (seinen).

The word Girls' Love or ガールズラブ is a wasei-eigo, or a Japanese term that appropriates English words into Japanese terms for the usage of Japanese audiences. The term yuri meanwhile came from the flower yuri no hana (百合の花) or “lily flower.” It is also associated with female homosexuality in Japan.
Yuri, meaning girls love in Japanese, is often an overlooked genre, or either not a very well-developed one in media. It is a rare occasion when an anime adaption of one even gives fans a healthy, or cute relationshipーand when it does, does it create a wonderful one. The kanji character 少年 (shōnen) literally means "boy" or "youth", and the character 漫画 (manga) means "comic"; thus, the complete phrase means "young person's comic", or simply "boys' comic", with the female equivalent being shōjo manga.
Another reason why Yuri!!! on Ice gained international appeal is because it's an international anime. Due to its competition's nature, essentially being a world tournament, many of the minor characters come from all over the globe. Because of this, you see a lot of different cultures represented in the series.
This genre was created 100 years ago. In this time, the main readers of Class S novels were girls. In 70s, the word yuri is created by the editor of Barazoku (rose tribe, the magazine for gays). But Yuri still targets girl or lesbians.
From all of the foreshadowing we can see that Yuri was once a normal human girl who got entangled with Nanno and is now a non-human entity just like Nanno. She was created when she gulped in some of Nanno's blood in the process of being drowned in the tub where Nanno's body was placed in episode 4.

This wiki is meant to be an easy to access database for same-sex attracted (Lesbian, Bi, etc.) female characters from anime and manga. The characters are ranked according to the "Yuri Feats" they had in the show, which is the gay things they have done or said.
Gayness is how gay the character is, a 100% bisexual character would get a score of 5 since she's 50% gay and 50% straight. The gayness is directly measured from the yuri feats she has. For a character to get a profile in this wiki she needs to fulfil 2 conditions:
Commitment is how much a character is loyal to her love interest, giving or showing firm and constant love for a female character. The opposite form of a loyal lover is a flirt, a character who's interested in more than one female lover, so the more loyal a character is, the less flirt she is.
Boldness is how much a character is willing to show affection, or reciprocate affection, from her love interest. You can use a tsundere to measure it since they (normally) tend to be 50% Tsun, 50% Dere, so they get a score of 5.
Lewdness is how much a character has lewd thoughts or has a lewd behaviour towards her love interest. The opposite of lewdness is pureness, so the purer a character is, the less lewd she is. Lewdness tend to be confused with gayness, that's why it's a separated score. Romance is the balance between between lewdness and pureness.
Many qualities can be put to express different types of relationship status. The most commonly used are Crushing, In a relationship or dating (not engaged yet), engaged, married, separated.
Every character needs a Gallery of pictures from the show or manga. This is both proves the feats they have and makes the page look nicer. A profile won't be accepted if it doesn't have a gallery.
