Well basically subs stand for subtitles and dubs are, well, dubs. A sub is when in anime, the characters are speaking in Japanese and English text is shown at the bottom for translation. In a dub, new voice actors are hired and its all in English.
Subs are only better than dubs because most dubs aren't executed properly. Poor voice acting can single handedly ruin the experience and my investment into a show or movie. Diehard weebs incoming!
