"I wouldn't say the movie is really scary; it's more of a game of cat and mouse between L and Light," said director Adam Wingard at Comic Con, via Polygon. The psychological games played by L and Light are, indeed, thrilling, but what's really scary is how easily a teenager becomes a mass murderer.
Parents need to know that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba is an anime series that features lots of fantasy violence, blood, and scary looking demonic creatures. The dead and possessed include young children, and characters are seen eating human flesh.
“The Promised Neverland” is a horror anime that currently has a 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The first season of the anime was released in 2019 and the second season was just fully released. The first episode of the second season was released to the public for free through Funimation on Jan. 7, 2021.
This horror anime has a distinctly creepy feel and at times in rather gory; the first death we see sets the scene as to what to expect; a girl trips while walking down the stairs and her umbrella impales her through the throat.
Tokyo Ghoul (東京喰種トーキョーグール) is one of the most popular modern horror and thriller anime series.
By preventing the parasyte from completing it's take over of his mind and body, 17-year-old Shinichi loses control of a single hand.
The only thing people love more than laughing is being scared. Anime delivers a flavor of horror unique from western tropes and c liches. For those who love to be scared a violent, bone-chilling anime can bring them to new levels of fear and revulsion.
RELATED: Junji Ito’s Horror Manga to Be Adapted As Anime Anthology. Young Keiichi Maebara is spending some time with beloved friends. At first, things seem to be idyllic and peaceful until news of a murder begins to spread. Keiichi's friends soon begin acting strangely.
There are seven seasons currently, each sharing stories based on the urban legends and, well, ghost stories of Japan. One follows a young boy who discovers that his family must put on horrific, garish smiles to stave off the ghost of his great-great grandfather; another tells the story of a young girl who suffers from a skin condition that evolves into a hand that keeps a tight grip on her neck, eventually choking her. It's truly disturbing stuff, but fortunately, if you get too scared, it'll be over in a matter of minutes.
Ryo has a secret: he knows demons are real, and he can prove it. He uses a special power to draw the demons out of humans, and plunges poor Akira into the center of it all. As a result, Akira becomes a "Devilman," or a demon that can retain its human nature while gaining immense power from a demonic form.
She loves her friends, going on adventures, and taking in the world around her. Just, there's this one tiny thing: there is no school . Actually, there's nothing: The zombie apocalypse has taken care of that. The girls of the School Life Club have to doggedly eke out an existence after zombies wipe out the rest of the world, but Yuki lives in a dream world, believing nothing bad has happened. It's a gripping zombie series with a school setting that pulls out all the stops, and you won't believe how things end up as the show concludes.
City life in Tokyo Ghoul is dangerous. Not only do you have to worry about criminals, but you've also got to steer clear of the flesh-eating ghouls that roam the streets at night. As they hide in plain sight among their human brethren in the day, ghouls prowl for sustenance when darkness falls. Protagonist Ken Kaneki finds himself the victim of a wayward ghoul searching for a midnight snack and subsequently becomes the world's first half-ghoul, half-human hybrid. Unfortunately, living among both worlds has some disturbing consequences—including giving up everything he ever appreciated about being human in the first place.
Netflix has a minimal amount of "Horror Anime," so even though I would love to make a "Best Horror Anime on Netflix" Top List, there are few horror anime to stream.
2019 horror anime was a good year for horror fans because we had many anime releases in 2019. Among the demon anime was the very binge-worthy Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba, quickly becoming my favorite horror anime of 2019.
Happy Sugar Life. There’s a lot to say about this anime. It’s one of the most f*cked up horror’s to exist.
Higurashi When They Cry will always be a personal favorite in the horror genre.
Hell Girl is an underrated horror series. You won’t see it mentioned too much when talking about dark anime shows.
This is an anime about vampires in a small village. A disease of sorts. It only reaches epidemic levels.
Monster is a classic by Madhouse Studios. An anime that seems forgotten in 2021, but still has the chops to make a lot of modern anime look mediocre.
Gakkou Gurashi is one of my favorite horror shows of all time. It’s another underrated horror like Hell Girl, but a lot better for me.
Paprika is a weird horror anime by Madhouse studios. I seen a comment describe it as “what it feels like to be on LSD” or some other drug that gets you high.
