Sekirei is better than it has any right to be. It should be a very basic harem show, but instead, it adds in a lot of battle elements that elevate the series. The protagonist is a young teenager who happens to have multiple special beings with incredible powers—known as Sekirei—around him.

Sekirei is an anime series based on Sakurako Gokurakuin's manga of the same name. And did you realize that there have already been two seasons? Sekirei, the first season, had 12 episodes and aired in 2008, while Sekirei: Pure Engagement, the second season, had 13 episodes and premiered in 2010. That's fantastic!
For instance Asterisk War is for sure a harem anime. However I watched Baby Steps, and although there is a couple girls into him. It never seemed like a harem anime. When I started thinking about the shows I watched and listing them all off.

In Tokyo in the year 2020, Minato Sahashi has failed the college entrance exam twice, is awkward around women, and unemployed. Growing up, he could never stand up to his mother or little sister, a trend that continues to this day. In reality, Minato is extremely intelligent, yet his inability to cope under pressure results in his constant failure. As a result, he has been branded an idiot and loser by many. One day, Minato meets a girl named Musubi, who literally falls from the sky. Minato soon learns that she is one of 'Sekirei' and he is her 'Ashikabi', human with special genes that allows them to "wing" (i.e. form a contract with) Sekirei. This binds the Sekirei to him and allows them to use their full power in the elimination battle with other Sekirei. Made up of cute girls, buxom women, and bishōnen, the Sekirei fight in a dangerous and sometimes deadly competition (also known as "The Game" or "Sekirei Plan") organized by Minaka Hiroto, chairman and founder of the mysterious and powerful MBI Corporation. Minato soon learns that being the partner of a beautiful girl is not all fun and games, especially when he discovers that an Ashikabi can have more than one Sekirei partner - and that's where the real trouble starts.
Sekirei have a strong ability called a Norito, which is an incantation recited to provide a boost of power when needed. To utilize this, they need to confirm the bond they share with the Ashikabi through a kiss and recite their prayer. Each Sekirei has their own unique Norito.
There are two ways to terminate a Sekirei: The first is through defeating them in physical combat by inflicting a sufficient amount and severity of damage; the second is for an opponent to touch the crest at the nape of their neck and recite their Norito. The crest then disappears, indicating termination.
However, they also have significant differences that set them apart: Sekirei have greater strength, speed, and stamina than is possible for humans. In addition, each Sekirei has a core that is the source of their power and very existence ; Sekirei who lose their core cease to function.
In the manga, if a Sekirei does not follow this rule and refuses to show their respect to the loser , other Sekirei might try to punish them. Musubi stated that the reward for the last remaining Sekirei of the game (the Sekirei Plan) is for them to be with their favorite person - their Ashikabi - forever .
Eight (later known as #02-09) were embryos. Ninety-nine others (later known as #10-108) were fertilized eggs. Minaka used the high technology discovered on the Sekirei ship to amass the fortune required to found MBI, take possession of the island and have it declared an extraterritoriality.
They discovered ruins which were actually the eighth Sekirei spaceship. On board the spaceship they found 108 life-forms in suspended animation: The first of them, the pillar, shown as #01 was an adult, and was not a Sekirei. Eight (later known as #02-09) were embryos.

The fight between Tsukiumi and the 'veiled' Sekirei (Uzume) ends abruptly due to the interference of Sekirei #3, Kazehana. Musubi takes Minato to meet Kuno and her Ashikabi, Haruka. Since Kuno is so weak, Haruka has decided to leave the city, but they have met many obstacles.
August 20, 2008. Sekirei #95, Kuno, and her Ashikabi Haruka attempt to escape Tokyo despite a lockdown, but are pursued by MBI soldiers and members of the Disciplinary Squad. While Uzume visits her Ashikabi, Chiho, in the hospital, Yukari resolves to help Shiina search for Kusano.
However, as Homura is readying to die, Minato and his Sekirei arrive and Tsukiumi douses him with her water. Uzume then begins to fight Kazehana while Tsukiumi fights #101 Oriha and Musubi fights #86 Katsuragi. Minato, not wanting to lose Homura, kisses him just as he is losing control of his powers once again.

Also, 8 mysterious artifacts called Jinki (神器?, lit. "God vessel"), numbered from #1 to #8, were also found on the Sekirei spaceship. If all eight of them are gathered, it is possible that they can be used to terminate all of the Sekirei if the weilder desires. Multiple Sekirei that are under the same Ashikabi can also merge their techniques in order to create more powerful techniques. This puts most Ashikabi at a disadvantage, as only a few Ashikabi posses more than one Sekirei.
Ashikabi (葦牙?) are humans with unique genes that enable them to empower the Sekirei destined to serve them. Through an exchange of saliva between a Sekirei and its Ashikabi (usually done through a kiss), a Sekirei without wings can become a "winged" Sekirei. Unlike Sekirei, who are mostly buxom women or handsome young men, Ashikabi can be quite innocuous as they can appear in any gender, age, and even status. In the series, the power of an Ashikabi can be determined not only by the number of the Sekirei he or she has in his or her disposal, but by the bond between them. Four Ashikabi in particular, including Minato, are considered the most powerful ones having titles based on their names followed by what part of the city they rule over. If an Ashikabi dies, all of the Sekirei winged by him or her will also perish.
