Berserk manga by Kentaro Miura is one of the best saga I have ever seen, great script, great dialogues, great characters and all what mankind have to offer : from best to worst. But Berserk manga is actually very dark, very harsh, violent, and humanity got an ugly side, a real ugly one. This movie does a great job to introduce the Golden Age Arc.
Why Should You Not Watch It?
… Or you can go with the movie:
There’s only one order in which the Berserk movies should be watched and it’s the following:
2) 'Berserk' While Berserk's anime carried an odd and somewhat worrying animation, the plot itself made the anime look good. However, the animation ended up being of poor quality with awkward camera angles and the overall uncanniness of the anime.
Berserk is known for traumatizing its readers, and Casca's fate during the Eclipse is the manga at its most terrifying and heart-wrenching. Instead of devouring her, the Apostles brutally assault Casca before handing her to Femto (a.k.a. a reborn Griffith), who then repeats the process, except worse.
The Anime covers Volumes 1 (Chapters 1 and 2, though fused into Chapter 1 along with reference to later Chapters in Volume 2), the end chapter of Volume 3 (where Gambino discovers Guts at a tree of execution), Volumes 4 through 10 and then Volumes 12 and 13 in the manga.
So here's the chronological order:Start with episodes 02-25 of the 1997 anime.Watch the last 52 minutes of the movie “Berserk: Golden Age Arc III - The Advent”Check episode 1 of Berserk(1997)Watch episodes 1-24 of the 2016 version of the anime.
If I had to stamp an age on it I would say 15-16, personally anything below 14 seems a bit too young, especially for the Eclipse.
Berserk has been widely acclaimed, particularly for its dark setting, storytelling, characters, and Miura's detailed artwork.
Berserk is known to be one of the darkest animes, exploring a wide range of topics from human nature and morality as characters struggle to maintain their humanity or succumb to murderous rampages, to betrayal and revenge.
Conclusion. Berserk has a huge time-gap between its seasons, movies, and the OVA. Due to this time gap, the chronological order is recommended. Do not skip the movies as they contain the build-up for the latest seasons.
Berserk Anime is pretty loyal the manga so watching it first is no brainer. Movies are up for grabs, there is no need to watch them if you are watching in continuity since they are basically recap of the original anime. You should watch the current Anime AFTER the original.

Kentaro Miura first launched Berserk over 30 years ago in 1998, and the manga world still hasn’t recovered from its impact. Miura has some of the most incredible pen-to-paper talents of any manga artist and the horrific world he builds throughout his tale is second to none.
No anime has ever been able to do the Berserk manga or its fans justice. Animators have brought the comics to life not once, not twice, but on three separate occasions; The classic Berserk (1997), the odd Golden Age Arc Berserk Movie Trilogy, and the horror simply known as Berserk (2016-2017).
