It comes in two flavors: anterograde (learning new stuff) and retrograde (anime’s favorite–difficulty remembering the past). Most people with amnesia struggle with short-term memory loss, which anime doesn’t usually play around with.

Story: Although the premise of the story was quite interesting (a girl being in an accident, losing her memory and then entering alternate worlds), there was little or no explanation as to why she is always waking up on August 1st in a different world. The chronology is pretty confusing, and the ending HIGHLY disappointing.
Alright, this is a toughy but I can afford to wait until the steam Christmas sales, they might be able to knock the price off a little bit lower than it currently is.
You often see anime characters worried that their current self will disappear when they regain their memories. They don’t know who they were (based on anime’s faulty idea of amnesia) and fear a complete change in their identity. Likewise, you also see the conflict they have with their friends (anime seriously needs more parents in teen stories).
People want to learn about other interesting people. The slow reveal can keep an audience guessing along with the amnesiac character. This allows viewers to feel as if they are taking the journey with the character instead of learning about a character who knows themselves (which is interesting in its own right).

The Guardian said of the series; " Amnesia uncovered so many victims of just one industrious serial killer that he must have started bumping off his wives at about the same time as he was sitting his common entrance exams. John Hannah starred as a cop called Mac who was attempting to cope with a disappeared wife whom, it transpired he may or may not have offed in moment of extreme insobriety. But Mac had not only carelessly misplaced his flashback wife, he was also in danger of losing his memory, his mind and his job, though not necessarily in that order. Instead of taking a sabbatical and having an affair with his therapist, Mac decided to follow a hunch about an alleged fellow amnesia sufferer called John Dean, who had wandered into an A&E department a few years ago claiming he didn't know who he was. Was Dean, now happily married to Jenna, really a murderer called Paul West? And before that, had he been a murderer called something else?
