287 chaptersWith only 287 chapters out, Yuki Tabata's manga is only a few events ahead of the anime which is why the makers ended the series. Earlier, a follow-up film was announced prior to the finale episode to bridge the gap between episodes and also to continue the manga.
The announcement was made on the official Black Clover anime Twitter page only a few weeks before the finale, which stated that the “final broadcast” i.e., episode 170, would be on March 30th, 2021.

The creators of Black Clover (Studio Pierrot) have not only confirmed season 5 of the popular anime series, but also a film set to release in 2022. Unlike the movie, however, season 5 of Black Clover will not be released to the public until around 2024, or even later.

The official word from the production team is that the Black Clover TV series officially ended with the release of episode 170, with only an anime movie following.
At the time of writing, it has not been confirmed that the anime series will return for episode 171 with every official note from the BC franchise labelling this as the ‘end’, rather than a hiatus. However, HITC predicts that the series will return to a seasonal broadcast after the movie premieres.
It really all depends on whether or not the anime chooses to continue with a second season following its final episode in Marc h. Because the anime could end leaving a major hook for the future but still fall in line with the manga canon.
The anime started this year by finally adapting the Spade Kingdom arc. This is one of the most well received in the manga to date, but it's also the most recent arc of Yuki Tabata's original series.
Audiences turned out in droves to watch it too, with it currently standing as the highest-grossing anime film in Japan’s history. To be sure, it’s not likely that Black Clover will reach the same financial heights.
Given the series’ popularity, the Black Clover anime coming to an end probably caught many of its fans off guard. Though it was catching up fast to its source material manga – and would have had to either go on hiatus or start producing filler arcs as a result – one would have thought that there was plenty enough steam to keep the production going.

It's expected to premiere either in late 2021 or early 2022.
This means that the anime will most likely make a comeback.
