The song was first released 40 years ago and has been enjoying a huge revival on Spotify, and its the record breaking numbers show no sign of stopping.

In 2001, it was revealed that Matsubara's actions were prompted by a late-stage cancer diagnosis she had received at the time, after which she subsequently began treatment.
