I personally don’t think anime is the saddest thing that exists because there are a lot of other things that are sadder then anime. For me, anime is just another type of entertainment that japan offers. It is no different from, for example, Nickelodeon cartoons, Cartoon Network cartoons, reality T.V. shows etc.
