Critic Reviews for The Dragon Prince: Season 1 Much like The Last Airbender, The Dragon Prince has something that everyone can relate to. It's mature enough that adults can enjoy it, but not overbearing - and still very much child friendly. October 9, 2019 | Rating: 8/10 | Full Review…
This series is TV-Y7 but often feels as if it's meant for an older audience. Scary, perilous scenes are common, as is bloodshed and intense battles. People kiss often, sometimes between two women. And sorcery and enchantments are used in nearly every episode.

“We make our show for smarter older kids, ages nine to 12,” Ehasz said. “Maybe they don't get every layer, but it treats them as intelligent and capable of engaging with a deeper story with real, dimensional characters. It's built for that audience but it's also built for cool adults.

Avatar: The Last Airbender references: While traveling through the Midnight Desert, Callum, voiced by Jack De Sena, says "This looks familiar.... boomerang?" This is a tribute to the boomerang-wielding character Sokka from Avatar: The Last Airbender, who was also voiced by Jack De Sena.

In this coming-of-age adventure, Yona must find a way to restore her kingdom to its former glory by following a mysterious legend and finding the four dragons, all the while avoiding capture by the relentless forces of the new King.
Based on the 1967 manga of the same name, written by Osamu Tezuka (considered by many the 'god of manga'), Dororo is a twisted, dark fantasy set in the Sengoku period.
Interestingly, this 2000 anime, based on the 1996 manga of the same name, relies on one of the most popular concepts in today’s anime: being transported to another world. The protagonist Kagome Higurashi falls into a well and gets transported to the Sengoku period, where she meets the half-dog demon, Inuyasha.
At the time of writing, the anime is still running and it’s on its way to becoming one of Winter 2019’s best shows. It’s got fantastic characters, the story is absolutely captivating, and we think fans of The Dragon Prince could appreciate many of its aspects.
No problem. Yona of the Dawn has you covered! This 2014 anime focuses on Yona, a pampered princess whose life is turned upside down when her father, the King, is betrayed and killed, forcing Yona to run away with her childhood friend and bodyguard Hak.
As one of the chief antagonists on the show, Viren (Jason Simpson) is as unlikable as characters get. The power-hungry High Mage and close advisor to King Harrow is hell-bent on preserving the human race at any cost, including the ruthless extermination of all of Xadia's magical creatures like Zym (Jack De Sena) the Dragon Prince.
As Viren's right-hand archmage, Aaravos' (Erik Dellums) likable nature in part comes from being the first elf of his kind to survive in Xadia. Although he is charming and intelligent, Aaravos has a secretive side and arrogant demeanor that sort of sullies his overall likability.
Despite being the brash, immature, and overconfident son of Viren, 18-year-old Soren (Jesse Inocalla) also exudes a magnetic charm, kindhearted spirit, and waggish sense of humor in the short animated series. As the youngest member of the Crownguard, the expert swordsman likes to crack harmless jokes, which increases his likability.
Soren's 16-year-old sister Claudia (Racquel Belmonte) has a much more effervescent and appealing personality than her cocky big brother. Claudia's bubbly demeanor and passion for magic, reading, and knowledge make her quite compelling as a character. Moreover, her unique expression through histrionic body language makes her even more appealing.
Although he is very strict and overly serious, Runaan (Jonathan Holmes) is the honorable and revered mentor of protagonist Rayla. The dedicated Moonshadow Elf will stop at nothing to kill King Harrow and avenge the memory of the Dragon King.
As Callum and Ezran's warm, loving, and compassionate maternal aunt, General Amaya is easily one of the most enjoyable characters on the show. As the deaf leader of Katoli's most formidable army, the Standing Batallion, Amaya guides soldiers by using American Sign Language, making her one of the most badass of likable characters.
As one of the three main protagonists and current King of Katolis, Ezran (Sasha Rojen) is designed to be one of the three most compelling characters on the show. In addition to the important representation of a person of color being in the highest position of power, it's Ezran's pacifistic leadership and compassion for Zym that make him lovable.
