Fortunately, players don't need to play any other games before starting Tales of Arise. The game is a standalone adventure and isn't a sequel or prequel to any other titles in the Tales series. The Tales series is similar to Final Fantasy in that each game is self-contained.
As these three titles are part of an ongoing JRPG series, some similarities are to be expected. Tales of Arise notably takes huge gameplay inspiration from Tales of Zestiria with a more Berseria-like control scheme, but the connections go further than that.
Code Vein is an open world action role-playing game set in a post-apocalyptic dystopian environment and played from a third-person perspective. Its gameplay was inspired by the Dark Souls series of games, and the animation is inspired by God Eater 3, both published by Bandai Namco and developed by the same team.
Tales of Arise is one of the most successful action RPG games to come out in recent times. The game has created a separate fan base due to its resemblance with the popular gacha style game Genshin Impact. Similar to Genshin Impact, Tales of Arise also has a lot of playable characters throughout its story.
Japanese Role-Playing Games (commonly known as JRPG) are games that have distinct features from Western-RPGs. JRPGs are typically made by Japanese developers but not exclusively. The term JRPG stems from console RPGs which defines games like Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy.
Tales of Arise also offers dungeons and quests like Genshin Impact does, along with the ability to swim to explore more of the map if in a particularly wet area. The game also includes fishing and plenty of sub-quests for players to tackle if they'd like to.
Then yes, there is Romance in this game. Awkward kind of Romance, but it's still there to some extent. And there's a Romance between all of the characters, not just the two main ones.
between 35-45 hoursIf you're just here for the story and ignore most side missions, it should take you between 35-45 hours to finish the game. If you're aiming to actually play through everything, earning all the available achievements, and tearing through the post-game that number will balloon a bit.
Similar to the previous games in the series, the anime sequences will be produced by Ufotable, while the game's score will be written by Motoi Sakuraba. Arise was revealed at E3 2019, although details of the game had leaked on the internet a few days before.
Arise takes place in a setting divided between the medieval world of Dahna and the advanced world of Rena. Rena's superior technological and magical advancement cause it to hold power over Dahna, taking its resources and treating its people as slaves.
The game is built using Unreal Engine 4 .
The seventeenth main entry in the Tales series, it was originally planned to release in 2020 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but was delayed to September 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The game follows two people from the opposing worlds of Dahna and Rena.
The art director and character designer was Minoru Iwamoto, who had worked on both Berseria and Tales of Zestiria. This was the first time the same person had filled both roles, and was part of Bandai Namco's move towards unifying the game's themes and artstyle.
Unlike many of the previous titles in the series, the game will not feature multiplayer, with development team deciding to focus on various interactions between characters in combat, including the addition of the "Boost Strike" feature, allowing multiple party members to perform destructive attacks together under certain conditions.
While the previous title Tales of Berseria had been a cross-generation game for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, Arise was made exclusively for modern hardware. Tomizawa stated that while the team was aiming for a level of quality that can be enjoyed globally, the game will not neglect its Japanese fans.
A girl who appears in front of Alphen and Shionne, strengthless, on the verge of death. She joins Alphen in request to rescue the resistance force of Cyslodia. Normally, Astral Arte can only be used by the Renan but she, regardless of being a Dahnan, is capable of using artes.
Experience the story of the divided Renan and Dahnan people. The protagonists who will determine the fate of these two worlds are Alphen and Shionne. They will overcome hardships and grow together with their unique group of friends.
An earlier entry in BANDAI NACMO’s Tales series, Tales of the Abyss received and anime adaptation in 2008. This series follows the story of Luke fon Fabre, a young boy who was kidnapped at a young age and loses his memories as a result of the traumatic event.
Another one of the Tales anime adaptations is Tales of Zestiria the X, produced by the incredible team at ufotable ( Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) in 2016.
FAIRY TAIL follows Natsu Dragneel and his band of adventurers in the Fairy Tail Guild. Natsu, with his dragon-like abilities, is on the search for his missing foster father, the dragon Igneel. He quickly meets Lucy Heartfilia and, along with Natsu’s cat-like pet, Happy, set off on a grand journey.
The Heroic Legend of Arslan follows the titular Arslan, the crown prince of Pars, after his father, King Andragoras III, is betrayed when Pars is invaded by Lusitania. Narrowly escaping and managing to pull a crew together, including servant Daryun and musician Gieve, they must find a way to free Pars from Lusitania.
This show follows orphans Asta and Yuno on their quest to become the next Wizard King. The problem? Asta doesn’t have any magical abilities, and he’ll need to rely on physical strength and his mysterious five-leaf clover grimoire. Yuno, on the other hand, is a magic prodigy.
This series has always looked as close to an anime as possible. This game in particular is really pushing the visuals to a new level. Characters especially look great but the environments are also nicely varied and colorful.
One of the reoccurring features some fans may look forward to in each new release is the co-op. The series is one of very few AAA RPGs that usually offers co-op. That’s not the case with this new game. So, for longtime fans, finding this out can be a bit disheartening.
Bandai Namco’s last action RPG, Scarlet Nexus, had some inconsistencies in the cutscenes and voice work. Given that both that game and Tales of Arise share development team members, fans may be wondering if Tales of Arise suffers from the same inconsistencies.
The one issue with the voice work that might be vexing for fans is that the lip-sync is inconsistent. Sometimes it is spot on and other times the lips flap like old school dubbed movies from the 80s and 90s. Another issue is that the pacing in dialogue can feel awkward due to pauses.
One of the reasons why Bandai Namco may have taken out co-op was to create a more fluid and dynamic battle system. Combat is better than ever thanks to the newest addition, Boost Strikes.
There are no random battles in the game but there are still battle arenas. This means that coming into contact with an enemy will warp players into a separate battlefield.
Alphen, Shionne, and the rest of the cast can’t be completely customized like Fallout 3’s character creator. Each character can still be tweaked with full-on costumes as well as accessories. Costumes can be found in the game or purchased through DLC.

Arise takes place in a setting divided between the medieval world of Dahna and the advanced world of Rena. Three centuries ago, the Renans based on Rena's artificial moon Lenegis invaded and conquered Dahna, subsequently enslaving the population and dividing the land into five isolated realms, each ruled by a Lord: The barren and scorching Calaglia, dark and cold Cyslodia, the fertile plains of Elde Menancia, the windy mountains of Mahag Saar and the rainforests of G…
