‘RWBY’ is an anime-styled web series originally released on July 18, 2013, on the Rooster Teeth website. The series follows four teenage girls trained to protect the fictional world of Remnant against crime and monsters called Grimm. Monty Oum was the creator of the series, but he passed away in 2015, while season 3 was in production.
RWBY. RWBY (pronounced "Ruby") is an American anime-influenced adult computer-animated web series created by Monty Oum for Rooster Teeth. It is set in the fictional world of Remnant, where young people train to become warriors (called "Huntsmen" and "Huntresses") to protect their world from monsters called Grimm.
Sure, RWBY is a 3-D animated series while anime is typically 2-D, but the show's art style is distinctively anime. The characters have big anime eyes that can be animated in over-exaggerated expression, something that can be found in just about every anime.
Prior to the events of the series, the world was overseen by two opposing deities, the Gods of Light and Darkness. Humanity is obliterated by the gods due to the actions of Salem, a vengeful woman cursed with immortality for trying to manipulate them into reviving her beloved Ozma.

^To clarify, RWBY doesn't count as an "anime" since it's not made in Japan. The term you're looking for is faux-anime/animesque.
Through the trailer, it's been confirmed that RWBY: Ice Queendom is a complete retelling of RWBY in anime form, with some changes made to the story in reference to Weiss and her backstory, the season focusing more heavily on the relationship between Ruby and Weiss.

RWBY boasts a very large cast of characters; much, much more than just the brilliant four title ladies, Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang. There are arguably over 10 main characters – and that's just the good guys; there is a large and eclectic mix of baddies to match.
Pronounced "ruby," the title of the series is an acronym for the team at the center of most of the action. As fans discover early on, teams of huntsmen and huntresses are formed in groups of four. Each letter of their team name corresponds to one of the members of the team name, and most team names are associated with colors.
They are the creatures Huntsmen train to fight. They're likely named for the Brothers Grimm who are credited with many versions of the fairy tales we know today.
The shortest episodes of the early volumes are actually just over four minutes long, though The World Of RWBY, which details myths and history in the universe, actually includes episodes that are just over two minutes long. The longest episodes of the series so far are closer to 28 minutes.
The average animated program, including Japanese anime, is usually around 22 to 24 minutes long to account for advertising breaks in a half-hour time slot.
A semblance is a special attribute. In Ruby's case, it's super speed. It's like having a genetic mutation in Marvel Comics. There are things a character can learn to do with this power, but they can't use it like magic - finding uses that are outside of the rules of their power.
Set in the world of Remnant where monsters ro am the earth and Huntsman protect the people from threats, RWBY has become the animated web series to watch. Produced by Rooster Teeth and created by the late Monty Oum, the story follows a group of teens and young adults as they try to save their world from a looming threat.
One of the things that puts initial viewers off of the series is watching early episodes and comparing them to more recent artwork for the show. There is a marked difference.
CRWBY: Behind the Episode is a behind the scenes documentary about the production of RWBY featuring interviews with the production crew. The show aired weekly during Volume 5 and Volume 6. It was first announced as part of Rooster Teeth's 13th-anniversary celebration on April 1, 2016, and Episode 1 premiered on May 7, 2016. Its first season concluded on October 15, 2016. Each episode consists of several scenes where aspects of RWBY's characters are usually exaggerated for comic effect. The episodes follow no strict chronological order, nor do they follow the strict canon of the main show. In January 2017, Rooster Teeth confirmed that a second season would launch that May. A third season started in January 2018, shortly after the main show's Volume 5 ended.

On February 11th 2020 a new RWBY spin-off show in a "new 2D, mixed media style of animation" was announced. This show will tell stories that "would be the kind of bedtime stories that Taiyang might have read to Yang and Ruby when they were little." It was later revealed that the series has the title " RWBY: Fairy Tales of Remnant " and it would premiere in 2021.
The art style of World of Remnant is heavily stylized and mostly rendered in 2D as compared to the 3D look of the main series. World of Remnant episodes air on an irregular release schedule, concurrent with the main show. World of Remnant episodes air during the main series' "off-weeks", in lieu of a full episode.
I think anime just means animation from japan. While most anime follows the distinct animation style associated with it, even if it's in a western style it would still be considered anime. It's just a way to distinguish between Japanese animation and non-Japanese animation.
In the same way, anime is not a genre. You wouldn't apply it and say "This is an anime show" the same way you'd say "This is a horror show.". And it's not a medium. What's being done by Roosterteeth is no different than what can be done in Japan.
My vision for the show was to present a two-dimensional, toon-shaded look, but with all of the depth and complexity of a 3D-animated production. I wanted to be able to move the cameras and characters freely while still capturing the essence of the flat, line-drawn look of traditional anime.— Monty Oum, 2013
