They're not the same person. Red is the main character of the RBY series, while Ash is the main character in the anime. Ash is the less cool, less talented counterpart of Red.
TIL Red is mentioned once in the Pokemon anime series : r/pokemon.
the Indigo PlateauRed can be battled at the top of the Indigo Plateau, near the entrance after defeating at least 6 Master Trainers with the player character also having six Pokémon in their party.

As strong as Red is, Ash has the stronger adaptability in his favor. Similar to the experience argument, Ash can adapt to many scenarios because of his exposure to go up against different types of Pokémon within different regions of the world.

Red is the main protagonist in the four-part anime special called Pokémon Origins, based on the Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, FireRed, and LeafGreen games.
11-year-oldRed is introduced as a curious 10 or 11-year-old boy from Pallet Town.
Both "Blue" and "Gary" were the grandson of professor Oak, too, so they definitely are the same character, and to that point, their rivals (Red/Ash) are the same character too. Except in the games you are not Ash (as in main character of the anime).
After a failed capture attempt, Red threw an Ultra Ball at Mewtwo and successfully caught it.
Sealing off Mt. Silver meant that the player had a reason to complete the Kanto region again, as they needed sixteen Gym Badges to enter it. In-universe, this gives Red a great reason to be there, as only the best Pokémon Trainers in the world could approach him for a battle.
Voice actor (s) Bryce Papenbrook. Red is the main protagonist in the four-part anime special called Pokémon Origins, based off of the Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, FireRed, and LeafGreen games.
Taking the chance, Red throws an Ultra Ball at Mewtwo.
After Saffron City, Red challenges Sabrina and defeats her Alakazam with Haunter. He beats the Karate Master and wins his Hitmonlee. He and Lapras travel to Cinnabar Island where Red goes to the Pokémon Mansion and reads about Mew and Mewtwo. He then battles and defeats Blaine. After hearing that the Viridian City Gym Leader - the strongest of them all - has returned, Red decides to challenge him. He arrives just as Blue walks away, having already beaten the Gym Leader. Red challenges the leader who turns out to be Giovanni. Red is shocked that Team Rocket owns a Gym. Comparing Giovanni to the other Gym Leaders he battled, Red angrily points out that unlike Giovanni, the other Gym Leaders actually loved their Pokémon. Giovanni disregards his rebuke. Red declares that he no longer wants a Gym battle, but wants to fight him for all the things he did to Pokémon worldwide. Giovanni then grabs two Ultra Balls and accepts the battle. He uses Rhyhorn and defeats Red's Victreebel, Kabutops, Snorlax and Jolteon. Red's Hitmonlee manages to take Rhyhorn down, fainting in the process. With both of them down to their last Pokémon, Giovanni uses Rhydon and Red calls out Charizard, who's able to defeat Rhydon despite the type disadvantage. Giovanni offers Red the badge, but he refuses to take anything from the Rocket leader. Reminded of the Trainer he used to be from observing Red during their battle, Giovanni disbands Team Rocket so that the badge would be from the Viridian City Gym Leader rather than the gang's boss. Accepting this, Red takes the badge.
Fuji start to glow in Red's pocket. Red takes the Mega Stones out and sees Charizard glow with them.
Red chooses a Charmander because it is a Fire-type like he is named after. Blue chooses Squirtle. Oak asks them to fill the Pokédex with the 149 known Pokémon and they excitingly accept the task. Red sees a Pidgey but fails to capture it and finds out that in order to fill the Pokédex he must capture all 149 Pokémon.
Giovanni then grabs two Ultra Balls and accepts the battle. He uses Rhyhorn and defeats Red's Victreebel, Kabutops, Snorlax and Jolteon.
Red's Dodrio gets defeated by Blue's Exeggutor, but Blue's Exeggutor is later defeated by Persian. Jolteon is defeated by Blastoise and Red is down to one Pokémon: Charizard, who he sends out for the last round. Charizard and Blastoise battle it out until the end in which Charizard wins.
The reason Red wasn't put in the anime, I believe, is because they thought kids would relate to Ash far better than Red's character. Ash was created to make money, essentially. And then the Pokémon Adventures manga was created as a sort of "nod" to how they wanted the anime to be. I can't remember where I read this, but I know I have somewhere!#N#Unless they make a whole separate Pokémon anime series (which I highly doubt would ever happen), then Red won't get a look in : ( even though, imo, it would be way more awesome than the current anime if he were in it. Or if the anime was more like the Pokémon Adventures manga in general.
1. Ash is pretty arrogant in Kanto like when he showed off that he had Boulder & Cascade Badges to AJ then when he was in Johto he was quite arrogant against Casey by using Charizard. The anime and the manga though have different ways of doing things, Red character progresses and developed as does Ash to an extent. But unlike Red, Ash character seems to digress as he pulled the same stunt with Pidgey as he did with a Deerling.#N#2. And Red in the game had no Pokemon to begin with either, and they are both counterparts of each other.#N#4. I believe the last mention of them was when they faced Samurai, so who knows what happened to them.#N#I could say that Ash and Red have nearly the same attire as did Gary and Blue did so that is just as much as a coincide.
Agreed with everyone else here. Red doesn't exist in the anime, but he does have an anime counterpart in Ash. The same applies for Blue and Gary.#N#And the bottom line: the games, anime and manga follow different storylines for the reasons the rest pointed out above.
Keep in mind that the video game/manga and the animé are two different universe. The Misty you see in the VG and the manga isn't the same Misty you have in the animé. They're counterpart. There are characters that exist in the VG but don't in the animé. This is the case of Red. He doesn't exist in this universe, like Ash doesn't exist in the manga or in the game at all. Gary is highly inspired by Green for the design and being Oak's grandson, but their personnalities are pretty different. Ash's appearance is inspired by Red's, but then they've nothing to do with each other, their personnalities are opposite.
Red appeared in the first episode of the series, in which he was called by Professor Oak to see him in his lab. Along the way, he met up with his childhood friend and rival, Professor Oak's grandson, Blue, who was also called there. The boys raced to Professor Oak's lab, where he greeted them and explained that he was done with his new invention, the Pokédex. He explained that his lifelong goal was to make a full encyclopedia on all of the Pokémon in Kanto, but was too old to travel and collect data. He asked them to catch all 149 Pokémon to fulfill his dream, and that whenever they caught a new Pokémon, their data would automatically be input in the Pokédex. On a table, Red was given the choice of either Charmander, Squirtle, or Bulbasaur as both a starter Pokémon and a token of appreciation for willing to complete this task. He chose Charmander, and Blue went for Squirtle. Each young Trainer then began his journey.
Red then went all the way to Cerulean Cave to find Mewtwo. Upon finding the Genetic Pokémon, a battle commenced immediately.
Red also went to the Fighting Dojo and challenged Kiyo, proving victorious again. Red rode Lapras to Cinnabar Island and visited the Mansion first, where he found the Pokémon Mansion journals. Afterward, he challenged Blaine to a Gym battle and won. Red's Hall of Fame team.
With Red and Charizard almost drowning in the water surrounding the island they were fighting on, Red's Key Stone reacted with Charizard's Charizardite X, which was revealed to be a Mega Stone from the Kalos region.
Red then journeys back to Cerulean City to capture the "monster Pokémon", which turns out to be Mewtwo. After attempting to catch it, Red and his Pokémon are almost sucked into Mewtwo's Psywave. They are saved by Blaine, and Red uses his whole team to fool Mewtwo and catch it with a Master Ball for Blaine.
Red is very much the quintessential hero; brave, kind, and outgoing. He is capable of feats of agility, and is always willing to help others, with or without the help of his Pokémon.
Red's special skill, as described by Professor Oak, is Pokémon battling, earning the title of the "Fighter" ( 戦う者 Fighter ). Red is sometimes slow to pick up on sensitive matters.
On Seafoam Islands, Red encounters Team Rocket again, who are searching for Articuno . He then reaches Cinnabar Island, spotting Team Rocket once more and secretly watching them battle Blaine 's Pokémon from the edge of a cliff. A member spots him and threatens to throw him off the cliff if he doesn't surrender.
After several days of training, he defeats her and wins the Cascade Badge . After stowing away and getting kicked off the S.S. Anne, Red meets the Pokémon Fan Club Chairman, learning from him that his Abra, along with other Pokémon, are being stolen.
Emerald chapter. Red, along with Blue, Green, Silver, and Yellow, were transported as statues in boxes on the S.S. Tidal by the other main characters to the Battle Frontier for their salvation. For most of this chapter, Red, along with four other Pokédex holders, remained frozen in stone.
Red only has seven of the eight Kanto Gym Badges. Although he defeated Giovanni at Viridian Gym, he never obtained the Earth Badge. He also did not battle each Gym Leader, sometimes receiving a Badge from another Trainer.
