Yuta Okkotsu will make his anime debut in 2021's Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie. Here's everything anime-only fans need to know about the young sorcerer. Before Yuji Itadori ever began studying under Satoru Gojo, Yuta Okkotsu served as the strongest sorcerer's protégé.
The name Okkotsu (乙骨) sounded appealing to the author while Yuta (憂太) was his given for his kanji 's meaning, "One With Many Friends" which the mangaka also liked. He never intended for his series Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School to be serialized, with Yuta being originally planned as the main protagonist of the franchise.
As cursed energy is the source of all abilities in Jujutsu Kaisen, this means there’s almost no limit to Okkotsu’s ability to boost his own strength, speed and durability, even beyond that of the physically gifted Yuji Itadori. He can also imbue his weapons with this cursed energy, making them do even more damage as well.
For Okkotsu, Rika is his cursed technique; a near unstoppable force to help him channel his near limitless cursed energy. While Jujutsu Kaisen 0 only shows the beginning of Okkotsu’s journey, he’s recently reappeared in the manga, giving readers an insight into just how much he has grown.
Yuta does not appear in the early chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen but Satoru Gojo mentions him as one of the upperclassmen attending Jujutsu High who may one day surpass him when discussing students with Yuji Itadori.
Jujutsu Kaisen voice actor Megumi Ogata drops a hint about a character's return and which story arcs will be featured in the anime's second season. Jujutsu Kaisen teases that Yuta Okkotsu will likely return in the anime's upcoming second season.
Yuta is first mentioned in Jujutsu Kaisen season 1, episode 5.
Yuta is currently a second-year student at Jujutsu High where he works as a jujutsu sorcerer. He was training overseas in Africa with Miguel until after the Shibuya Incident when he returned to Tokyo.
Because of the character's similarities with Fushiguro, Akutami decided to alter the former's early design.
Yuta's early characterization was compared to people suffering from grief.
The protagonist of Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, Yuta is initially a cursed victim of Special-Grade, haunted by the spirit of his childhood friend, Rika Orimoto. Satoru Gojo takes charge of Yuta's case and enrolls him at Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School, where he befriends Panda, Maki Zenin, and Toge Inumaki.
In a Viz Media popularity poll taken in March 2021, he was voted the eight popular character in the franchise. In promoting the series, Okkotsu's outfit was added to the NetEase game Knives Out, while a figurine of him holding Rika was released.
Yuta was then taken under Gojo's wing and enrolled into the Tokyo Jujutsu Tech school in order to make the most of Okkotsu's abilities. Immediately classified as a special grade sorcerer (which is already rare), Yuta has a massive store of cursed energy due to the spirit attached to him. 0 comments.

Anime-only fans have yet to meet Yuta Okkotsu, but their familiarity with Tokyo Jujutsu High will make it a bit easier to introduce the young sorcerer in Volume 0. Much like Yuji and Megumi, Yuta is a student at Tokyo Jujutsu High recruited by Satoru Gojo himself.

There are only five characters in the entire Jujutsu Kaisen manga who have earned the title of special grade jujutsu sorcerer. These five sorcerers are Satoru Gojo, Suguru Geto, Yuki Tsukumo, Masamichi Yaga, and Yuta Okkotsu.
Before Gege Akutami ever introduced readers to Yuji Itadori, Yuta Okkotsu was cast as the protagonist in the one-shot now known as Volume 0 . The short manga series was so successful that Gege Akutami earned a contract with Shonen Jump to produce a weekly manga by the name of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Overpowered protagonists are a staple of the shonen genre, but modern series have almost done away with this trope. In order to draw in a larger audience, mangaka have begun to shy away from the overpowered main character in order to create protagonists who are easier for the audience to relate to.
For readers who are still confused by the idea that Volume 0 will feature a protagonist who has yet to make it into the main Jujutsu Kaisen anime series, it should be made clear that Yuta will eventually join Yuji and Megumi in their battle against cursed spirits.
