In the anime, where he more or less acts like a little child, Kirby's peers Tiff and Tuff sometimes call him a "baby" (in the Japanese dub, Meta Knight also implies this when he tells Tiff that he was born 200 years too early). Along with his high-pitched voice and "poyo language", it's implied that Kirby is at least young.
Masahiro Sakurai intended Kirby to be largely mute in the anime. In the Japanese version, Kirby usually only says "Poyo," although he sometimes says names and has a limited vocabulary. In The Meal Moocher, Kirby could say "kani" (crab). In Shell-Shocked, Kirby could say "Nyūin" (hospitalized).
Kirby has been described as one of the most legendary video game characters of all time by PC World. In virtually all his appearances, Kirby is depicted as cheerful, innocent and food-loving but becomes fearless, bold and clever in the face of danger.
Episodes have also been released on the Kirby TV Channel for the Wii game console (only in Europe), and on the game compilation Kirby's Dream Collection (also for the Wii).

Parents need to know that this cartoon series is based on a popular Nintendo video game character. While he looks cuddly and pink, Kirby is a star warrior-in-training and gets into at least one skirmish per episode. There are scary voices and situations that show the main characters in peril.
Basically, Kirby is a boy. In the original English manual for Kirby's Dream Land (from 1992) Kirby is described as such. Players only seem to get confused because, generally, Kirby is pink.
His age is never directly stated, although he is referred to as a "little boy" in the English manual for Kirby's Dream Land, described as a baby in the anime, and was referred to as being a "jolly fellow" in Kirby Super Star.
The most common thing Kirby says in the anime is "Poyo", which is meaningless, but it allows him to use his voice in such a way that it conveys his emotions without actually saying anything meaningful, as illustrated here.

Kirby (Japanese: カービィ Kābī) is the major non-Pokémon of the series Pokémon Dream Warriors. Kirby lives in his dome-shaped home in Dream Land, a country on his home planet Planet Popstar.
When Kirby inhales and swallows another Kirby, he will gain no Copy Ability and only damage will be dealt unless the Kirby being swallowed has a Copy Ability itself, in which case Kirby will steal it. Kirby can discard his Copy Ability by Taunting, and has a chance of losing it upon taking damage.
Kirby debuted in the comic "Super Mario: Mario im Wunderland".
Kirby is a short spherical pink creature with two stumpy arms and two red feet. He has two ovular blue eyes with black pupils.
In fact, he is so famous, that in the Japanese versions of the games, he is known by the title of 星のカービィ ( Hoshi no Kābī, meaning "Kirby of the Stars"); while this is usually localized as just "Kirby," in Snake's Codecs with Otacon, it is instead localized as "Kirby from Dream Land.".
The game was renamed 星のカービィ ( Hoshi no Kābī) meaning "Kirby of the Stars" in Japan, and became known internationally as Kirby's Dream Land. Kirby's original name, Popopo, would later be referenced in Kirby Mass Attack, as it is set on the Popopo Islands. Platinum Collection Build Your Own Bundle. Choose up to 7 games.
Sakurai was deeply involved during the development of Kirby's anime known under the same name as Kirby's Dream Land ’s Japanese name (星のカービィ Hoshi no Kābī ), and dubbed under the name Kirby: Right Back at Ya! in North America. When asked about what was being considered during Kirby's design within the anime, the reply from Nintendo was that besides considering the ease of staining of colors and drawing, Kirby should instantly associate with people, be easy to remember, and easily become familiar.
Kirby can discard an ability copied by another character by taunting. The ability star is formed, but it quickly disappears. Kirby can also lose his ability by taking too much damage or by having another Kirby copy another Kirby's ability.
Color. US boxart of Kirby's Dream Land. Sakurai intended Kirby to be pink when he conceived his character. This was in contrast with the wishes of Shigeru Miyamoto, the head of Nintendo's Entertainment Analysis and Development (EADS) branch who wanted Kirby to be yellow.
In Kirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby can summon Gooey like a Helper at the cost of 2 hitpoints; the CPU or second player controls Gooey, or Kirby can swallow Gooey for the 2 hitpoints at any time, which makes Gooey seem like some sort of food to Kirby as well as being his friend.
Where Kirby got his name from is not known , since Masahiro Sakurai himself has been quoted as saying he does not remember how Kirby got his name. However, from within Kirby's fandom, it is believed that Kirby might have been named after the Kirby Company, which manufactures vacuum cleaners and suits Kirby and his inhalation abilities. The other explanation is that he might have been named in honor of Nintendo's legal counsel, John Kirby of Latham & Watkins LLP, who defended Nintendo against a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by Universal Studios over the similarities of Donkey Kong to King Kong .
Kirby crash-lands on a planet called Popstar and quickly befriends two yellow-skinned siblings named Tiff and Tuff.
The original creator of the franchise Masahiro Sakurai was in charge of supervising the series, and the planning and production of the project began around 2000, coinciding with the development of Super Smash Bros. Melee. In an interview with Famitsu, Sakurai said, "I've had a lot of involvement in the production of the animation. We aim to create an anime that both parents and children can enjoy just as much as the games. In the beginning, Kirby started out as a game that even beginners could enjoy. I think that spirit has been carried over to the anime as well." He became friends with the cast and staff, and they held a birthday party for him when the day of voice recording for the final episodes happened to coincide with it.
Kirby: Right Back at Ya! Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, known in Japan as Kirby of the Stars (星のカービィ, Hoshi no Kābī, Japanese pronunciation: [hoɕi no kaːbʲiː]), is a Japanese anime series based on Nintendo 's Kirby franchise. Kirby is a young Star Warrior. He is spoken of in legend as Kirby of the Stars, because a Star Warrior's ship is designed to go wherever monsters are. Kirby's ship detected the creatures Dedede was ordering and he was awakened 200 years before schedule. Due to this early awakening he is still only a child.
In the end when Kirby and Tiff face Nightmare, which is in a dream, Tiff throws the Warp Star at Kirby, who swallows it and becomes Star Rod Kirby. Star Rod Kirby has the Star Rod which is Nightmare's sole weakness, allowing Kirby to defeat him.
In the games, the story takes place on the faraway planet Popstar (especially the entirety of the country of Dream Land/Pupupu Land, which is a part of Popstar) and its surrounding planets, while the anime takes place mainly in a village called "Pupu Village" (anime original) further inside Dream Land, which is somewhat limited. While the everyday scenes in Pupu Village are portrayed in a heartwarming and calm light, the story about the Star Warriors (Galaxy Soldier Army) is more serious. Due to the policy of not having humans (earthlings) in the show, most of the characters have comical one to three heads tall figures, with all but the main characters resembling the haniwa figures. The characters (mainly the monsters) from the games come from the original Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby's Adventure (and the port Nightmare in Dream Land ), Kirby's Dream Land 2, Kirby's Dream Land 3, and Kirby Super Star, but none of the characters from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards make an appearance. Due to differences in style and worldbuilding, many of the characters that were introduced from the original games had their personalities drastically changed. This is especially true of Kirby and King Dedede, who appear most often.
The sheep in the Japanese version make a "meh" sound, while in the American version they make a "baa" sound. Makiko Ohmoto 's performance of Kirby is the only voice that was preserved in almost the entirety of the English dub, much like Ikue Ōtani 's voicework as Pikachu .
Sakurai switched to the placeholder design for the final character design when he believed that it served the character better. The character was known as Popopo (ポポポ) during development until the name "Kirby" was chosen from a draft list of potential names. Shigeru Miyamoto stated that "Kirby" was chosen in honor of American lawyer John Kirby, who defended Nintendo in the Universal City Studios, Inc. v. Nintendo Co., Ltd. case in 1984 and that the guttural -sounding name contrasted amusingly with the character's cute appearance. Kirby appears white in Kirby's Dream Land due to the grayscale palette of the Game Boy system. Sakurai intended the character to be pink, though Miyamoto originally wanted the character to be yellow. Kirby does appear white in the game's North American promotional materials and artwork to reflect the character's in-game appearance.

From the second game onwards, by swallowing foes, Kirby can copy their primary attribute, called a Copy Ability, giving Kirby new abilities such as gaining fire abilities from inhaling a fiery creature or the ability to shoot needles from his body by eating a spiky creature.
Kirby does appear white in the game's North American promotional materials and artwork to reflect the character's in-game appearance. In North America, Kirby consistently appears in artwork with a more striking, bolder expression than in Japan, where his expression is more relaxed.

The average viewership rating in Japan was 5%, with the highest rating being 7%, which was one of the highest ratings attained for a morning slot anime, but TBS (which CBC is affiliated with) decided to end the project in its second year due to the lack of desired results, sales of the merchandise, and the fact that A-UN, who were in charge of production at the time, were on bargain sale, so they chose to end it on a good note with the hundredth episode.
