The reason why Hunter x Hunter was not brought to an end, was because Togashi knows he has a lot of fans and he doesn’t want to let them down. Despite having all those health problems, Togashi occasionally forces himself to release a few chapters every so often in short bursts.

Extra - The manga is definitely ongoing but im not sure as to whether it will be even completed. The time between the release of every chapter just keeps increasing and the chapters haven’t progressed as much as it should have from the time the Anime ended.
