Heaven Official's Blessing Is a Story About Devotion Yes, this is a BL (Boys' Love), but like most BL-adapted animation, the romance will probably not be explicit and will be conveyed through more subtle gestures, instead.
Update: As of April, 2021, the first season of Heaven Official’s Blessing can be streamed on Netflix, BiliBili, and Funimation. There is no release date yet for the second season, which has been announced.
With Funimation announcing, one day before the show’s premiere, that they are dipping into the world of Chinese animation to simulcast the eagerly anticipated donghua series of Heaven Official’s Blessing, North American danmei (Chinese BL) fans are breathing a sigh of relief.
Like The Untamed, the BL elements in Heaven Official’s Blessing will probably be toned down for television, but I can’t imagine how they’d be able to keep Hua Cheng and Xie Lian’s narrative from reading as a romance. I mean look at this trailer, it’s romantic.
“Heaven Official's Blessing” is known for its rich storytelling and character development. While building the romance in the story, MXTX adds small details to the main couple's relationship. She is able to balance the romance with the central plot that has a mystery-thriller focus.
The show falls into the xianxia genre (a fantasy genre influence by Taoism, Buddhism, and Chinese mythology).
Hua Cheng. Hua Cheng is his husband and lover, as well as his most devoted believer. The two meet in the present time as Xie Lian is heading back to Puqi Shrine and manages to hitchhike on the cart of an old man heading the same direction.
Here's why you should watch Heaven Official's Blessing on Netflix -- the streaming platform's first donghua. Heaven Official's Blessing has released on Netflix, bringing the series to a larger international audience.
Review: “Tian Guan Ci Fu” Is an Exciting LGBTQ Romance Anime from China. Also known as “Heaven's Official Blessing” in English, “Tian Guan Ci Fu” breaks new ground for LGBTQ representation in Chinese media—and streams on Netflix for international viewers.
The official age rating for the English version of TGCF is 17+. This is because despite the lack of explicit sexual content, there are other themes present in the novel which may be inappropriate for younger audiences.
As a result, Hua Cheng tends to have a childish jealousy towards his own weapon, often pushing it to the side, so he can regain Xie Lian's undivided attention and affection.
Though initially horrified, he might have made the Ghost King cry, Xie Lian reaches out only to realize that he's actually laughing. As the two of them settle into bed, Hua Cheng turns to face Xie Lian's back -- an echo of when they first slept together, but this time, Hua Cheng is brave enough to face him.
After the fall of the heavenly emperor, Xie Lian settled down and has been happily married to the ghost king Hua Cheng for years. One day, he wakes up in the heavens, after the Xianle civil war and just before receiving his first cursed shackle from Jun Wu.

There's good news for the fans of Heaven Official's Blessing The anime show has renewed its contract for the second season . It is expected to return the early 2022.

The story follows Xie Lian, the luckless Crown Prince to the Kingdom of Xian Le, which has not existed for several centuries. Xie Lian has ascended as a god twice before, granting him immortality, but for years, he has been in exile, roaming the human realm and doing odd jobs.
The romance that unfolds between the two male leads throughout the book allows for no misinterpretation. The story does not queerbait the audience but instead presents a steady love story that supports the other elements of the tale.
Heaven Official's Blessing is the third novel by Chinese author Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, the others being The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System and The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation. All three of these novels are epic fantasies involving romances between men.
Because Heaven Official's Blessing avoids harmful BL tropes, it's more accessible to the LGBTQ+ community at large who might have otherwise been put off by unbalanced power dynamics -- especially sexual ones -- and other BL elements that make the genre more of a harmful representation of gay men than anything else.
Xie Lian is a kind, gentle deity who just can't seem to catch a break. The crown prince of a long-destroyed kingdom, he's endured centuries of plagues, violence, poverty, and multiple demotions that have gotten him kicked out of heaven. Now a god with no followers, he's reduced to collecting scrap in the mortal realm.
Eh, to be honest, it isn't that great. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but not gonna lie here, it's not that great, at least not as great as everyone is raving about. I was never a huge fan of the original novel, but some of the problems of the original are exemplified even more here. Let's start with the good stuff: the animation is really pretty.
