The anime Dragon Ball has a very unique concept note, which fortunately is executed very well. It is riddled with a lot of mythological, religious, and cultural influences, which give it depth.
Things to note before we begin:
Dragon Ball Super 's Grand Priest may just be the true villain of the entire series, and could eventually come to blows with Goku and Vegeta. At the time of writing, the Dragon Ball Super story is playing out via two mediums; a sequel to the mega-successful Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie has been confirmed, but story details remain unknown, and the Dragon Ball Super manga is still in publication, currently unraveling a brand new story starring previously unseen villain, Moro.
A 131-episode anime television series adaptation produced by Toei Animation aired in Japan from July 2015 to March 2018. A sequel film, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, was released in December 2018 and became the highest-grossing anime film of the franchise.
Dragon Ball Z (Japanese: ドラゴンボールZ, Hepburn: Doragon Bōru Zetto, commonly abbreviated as DBZ) is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation.
Dragon Ball Z and its sequel, Dragon Ball Super, are two of the most well known and well-watched anime series of all time. They follow the story of young Goku, a Saiyan alien that came from the planet Vegeta, who became Earth's strongest fighter. The first episode of Dragon Ball Z aired on the 26th of April, 1989.
Masashi Kishimoto openly admits that the character Naruto is inspired by the hero of Dragon Ball, Goku. Kishimoto cites Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball series as one of his influences, noting that Goku, the protagonist, was a key factor when creating Naruto Uzumaki due to his energetic and mischievous personality.
10 Naruto — Masashi Kishimoto drew inspiration from Dragon Ball & Goku. Kishimoto has admitted that he started working on manga, to begin with, because of Dragon Ball and Goku in particular. It's not difficult to see the influence either — Naruto and Goku are both big eaters.
'Super' Picks Up (Around) Where 'Z' Left Off Dragon Ball Super, however, takes place about six months after Kid Buu was defeated in Dragon Ball Z, in a time when the Earth is peaceful and back to normal.
For those standout storylines, you don't really need much Dragon Ball Z education - just like you don't need to watch much of the other Dragon Ball Super storylines, either. You can catch Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super on available streaming platforms.
Most people who've watched/read both DB and DBZ favor DB because it's just overall better in pretty much every single area than Z.
I do not know about you, but I was completely satisfied when DBZ ended. I wouldn't even mind if it ended sooner - before Majin Buu saga. From time to time I went to it back and rewatched great battles and other good moments. However one day something happened. The Dragonball Kai started to air.
A lot of the popular Anime from back in the days or ongoing series that first started way back, that many people in their early 20's or older will connect with or have fond memories of. To expand the list a bit further, Anime from around that area that are interesting and decently ranked might be included as well.
A companion manga series illustrated by artist Toyotarou, who was previously responsible for the official Resurrection 'F' manga adaptation, began serialization in the August 2015 issue of V Jump, which was released on June 20, 2015.

The tournament ends with Goku and Frieza eliminating Jiren along with themselves, leaving Android 17 as the winner. He is awarded one wish from the Super Dragon Balls, and restores the erased universes. Frieza is permanently revived.

The first opening theme song for episodes 1 to 76 is " Chōzetsu☆Dynamic! " (超絶☆ダイナミック!. , Chōzetsu Dainamikku, "Excellent Dynamic!") by Kazuya Yoshii of The Yellow Monkey. The lyrics were penned by Yukinojo Mori who has written numerous songs for the Dragon Ball series.
The English version of the second trailer was released on October 5, 2018. A second Dragon Ball Super film has been confirmed to be in pre-production as of June 4, 2019 by Toei executive Akio Iyoku. Iyoku feels that the film "will probably be totally different [from Broly ].".
First impressions of the series' debut episode were mostly positive with the quality of animation being praised the most. Richard Eisenbeis of Kotaku praised the series' title sequence and said "My middle-school self is so happy right now, you guys." Jamieson Cox of The Verge also praised the title sequence and said that " Dragon Ball Super' s intro will have you begging for its North American release". Cox was also surprised that, considering how popular the franchise is, the series did not launch internationally at the same time. He called it "a move that wouldn't be unprecedented" giving Sailor Moon Crystal as an example.
Seven years after the events of Dragon Ball Z, Earth is at peace, and its people live free from any dangers lurking in the universe. However, this peace is short-lived; a sleeping evil awakens in the dark reaches of the galaxy: Beerus, the ruthless God of Destruction.

The series begins with a retelling of the events of the last two Dragon Ball Z films, Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F', which themselves take place during the ten-year timeskip after the events of the "Majin Buu" Saga. October 15, 2017. ( 2017-10-15) May 18, 2019. Given the impression that he intends to kill Goku as he explains they are in a blind spot, Freiza instead transfers from his energy into Goku to heal him as his way of repaying Goku's act of mercy during their fight on Planet Namek.

In Japan and the United States, Dragon Ball Super was aired year-round continuously, without seasonal breaks; The "arcs" in this list divide the series by story arc according to Toei Animation's promotional material, and do not reflect the pattern in which the series was broadcast or produced.
Both the manga and anime each featured their own side stories that did not appear in their corresponding counterpart. The manga has an extra sequence of Trunks and Goten taking care of the wildlife preserve guarded by Android 17 while the android-turned-park-ranger is away fighting in the Tournament of Power.
The fight against Goku Black and Zamasu, the evil god from an alternate universe, unfolds differently. In the manga, Vegeta learns during his fight against Hit that relying on Super Saiyan Blue for prolonged periods of time drains his strength.
The Tournament of Power concluding the anime has the most visible changes between the anime and manga. The manga starts with a sequence of the Gods of Destruction entertaining Grand Zeno and Future Zeno by engaging in an exhibition fight.
Both the anime and manga progress in different ways beyond the Tournament of Power, despite the episodic series concluding following the tournament. In a standalone animated film, Goku and Vegeta face off against a reimagined Broly, with a resurrected Frieza exacerbating the situation as part of his continued revenge against the Saiyans.
The anime gives us 88 minutes of screen time to the manga’s 40-44 pages a month. But in terms of rewatching or re-reading, the anime takes forever to reach the same plot points the manga has already hit and moved on from.
In the end, Super ’s ability to go on because it didn’t have to worry about getting ahead of Toriyama helped it tell some pretty entertaining stories. In the manga, they pretty much go from beating Goku Black right into the Tournament of Power, briefly spending a bit of time talking about who’ll join the team.
But in terms of rewatching or re-reading, the anime takes forever to reach the same plot points the manga has already hit and moved on from. In the anime, Goku and Vegeta go back to the past several times while battling Zamasu and Goku Black, while in the manga they don’t repeat this bit nearly as much.
Especially in the current arc, as Goku and Vegeta are both vastly stronger than their opponent but aren’t able to do anything about the unique abilities he possesses.
Goku’s not using Kaio-Ken times twenty, effectively multiplying his power level by a geometric rate and still getting stomped out by Jiren. Trunks isn’t discovering new Super Saiyan transformations with zero explanation.
With Dragon Ball Super's manga and anime running almost concurrently, both versions have their own advantages and disadvantages. Typically, when it comes to a franchise, the manga is something of a cheat sheet the anime copies off. It pulls events as directly as possible from the manga, with its major contributions being animation, color, music, ...
