The story takes place in a world of modern, civilized, anthropomorphic animals with a cultural divide between the carnivores and herbivores. The series takes its name from the in-universe rank of Beastar, an individual of great talent, service, and notoriety.

If you watch Beastars, does that make you a furry? No. Just watching a show with anthropomorphic animals in it does not make you a furry.
Despite this anime's reputation of being a furry anime, Beastars is a beautiful story about discrimination. Due to its gore, violence, sexual scenes and dark themes, I would recommend it to ages 13+ if they are mature enough or will watch it with a parent/guardian if not I would say wait until they are 15+.

It certainly has an audience built-in from the concept alone, but for the non-furries, Beastars has the benefit of being an actually interesting character drama, with solid conflict, and an interesting world. If anything, the uncanny valley aspect of some of the designs made it less sexy than it was intended to be.
There is some violence and stylised slow-motion blood but overall the scenes do not dwell on pain or injury. Season 2 is much more violent than Season 1. Bloody altercations occur frequently between characters, a character is accidentally dismembered, shootouts, and more all occur.
Expect violence (punching, dragging, weapons like arrows and batons, explosions) and some drinking (celebratory champagne, etc.).
Parents need to know that Beastars is a Japanese anime series based on the manga of the same name. The original is Japanese-language, but the show is also dubbed into English. The overall tone of the show is dark and mature, with sexual and violent content that's not suitable for young viewers.
This is because Beastars is internationally licensed, which means Netflix pays a lot of money for the anime to be exclusive to the streaming service outside of Japan.
Because of its overtly sensual themes, occasional bouts of bloody violence, and heavy emphasis on romance, Beastars is almost always mistaken for a slightly edgier shojo title or a different kind of seinen manga.
The furry fandom is a subculture interested in anthropomorphic animal characters with human personalities and characteristics.
In the broadest sense, a furry is someone with an interest in anthropomorphized animals — that is, animals who have been given human characteristics, like an ability to talk or walk on their hind legs.
Beastars (ビースターズ, Bīsutāzu?) is an anime series produced by Studio Orange. Licensed by Netflix, it is based on the manga of the same name which was written and illustrated by Paru Itagaki. It was released on October 8, 2019, in Japan.
If you’ve been paying attention in the world of anime, right now the series that has everyone talking is a little show streaming on Netflix called Beastars from the Studio Orange. Its premise isn’t anything we haven’t seen before—carnivores and herbivores living like humans while dealing with a cultural divide.
There is a lot of your mileage may vary, but if you wanted to know why people were talking about Beastars, it is half because there is an interesting plot and the other half is shock and awe about the fact that a bunny and a wolf are totally gonna hook up. (image: Netflix/Orange)
The anime, which is set at a school, begins with a murder. Tem, an alpaca, is brutally murdered and devoured, seemingly by a carnivore student, which launches a wave of unease and distrust between the herbivore and carnivore students.
However, due to being an adult anime, it is able to deal with some of the darker sides of a society like this.
The series takes its name from the in-universe rank of Beastar, an individual of great talent, service, and notoriety.

In February 2019, it was announced that Beastars would get an anime television series adaptation animated by CG studio Orange. Shin'ichi Matsumi directed the series, with Nanami Higuchi handling series composition, Nao Ootsu designing the characters, and Satoru Kōsaki composing the series' music.
It first emerged in its current form between the years of 1982 and 1984, though fans debate which years it emerged precisely.
The Air Pirates Funnies in particular took animals that they identified as Disney-centric and put them in explicit sexual positions in order to parody and mock them. This led to a famous 1971 lawsuit where The Walt Disney Company sued creator Dan O'Neill over his content.
The same can't be said for Beastars, which, since its international Netflix release, has become a mainstream hit. Beastars in many ways is akin to many of the rebellious 1970s underground comics that channeled anthropomorphism as a way to satirize cartoon media at the time.
