I can say for myself that the anime, Another, is one of the best horror anime out there ever since the start of anime. The eeriness, the suspense, the ghastly and dark setting... Another totally hits every criterion for good horror.
1 A grounded story in a fantastic setting. 2 A faithful adaptation of the manga. 3 Fantastic dubs.
Another |. When it comes to horror genres and scary story-lines, the anime world is a bit lacking. As a matter of fact, there are only a few handful of anime titles that can be listed under the genre. And one of the shows that made it into the small bunch of popular scary anime is Another.
Maison Ikkoku is the finest romance anime ever made, in terms of story structure, character development and emotional depth. If you look over this because it's of older animation then you really don't know what an incredible experience you've missed out on.
It's worth a watch I guess. I watched Another on a whim last October and absolutely loved it. It's one of those anime that you can only watch once and never again because after the first time the episodes lose their shock factor.
Another is the best horror anime I have watched so far . At start it might be a bit boring and a bit too much scary but it definitely builts hype within 5 episode. The ending is a bit shocking which one wouldn't have expected. I would say it's definitely worth watching.
Packed full of terror, blood and creeping despair, Another may well be the scariest anime ever created. There are plenty of great candidates in the debate over which anime is the scariest of all time.

Teenage students, teachers, and other adults are killed in horrific ways. Most deaths are caused by chance and the environment. In the TV version, violent scenes are censored by dark circles, but the censoring still allows some gore to be seen. The death scenes are explicit, graphic, and frightening.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is the best magical girl anime because kids, or at least young teens, can enjoy it, but it's mature enough to appeal to a wider audience. It's solidly rooted in the magical girl genre, but with a darker approach and subversion of many genre tropes.
The reason Fullmetal Alchemist is the best fantasy anime of all time is that it paints a fully realized, unique world with internally consistent rules that have real consequences. Building on that foundation, it delivers a story about two brothers that's as grounded as the setting is fantastic.
Anime is known for mixing genres, which is how you get shows like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. While Haruhi is a slice-of-life anime on a superficial level, there's a lot more weirdness going on there. The show elevates itself beyond genre limitations, with elements of mystery and science fiction.
Without Dragon Ball, the fighting anime genre as we know it today probably wouldn't exist.
Most anime horror series are referred to as horror because of the monsters, like High School of the Dead. These series tend to be light on what western audiences think of as horror. Still, When They Cry straddles the line.
Anime has a reputation for being kid stuff, because of the connection between animation and kids cartoons in the West. The truth is that most anime isn't for kids, as evidenced by all the TV-14, TV-MA, and R ratings on this list. If you're looking for a great anime kids movie, the best place to start is Studio Ghibli.
Honorable mentions : Bleach, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Mushishi. A lot of fantasy and supernatural anime incorporates fantastic elements into real-world settings, like shinigami descending on Karakura Town in Bleach. Shin Sekai Yori, or From the New World, takes it to a new level. The series starts off a little slow.
Kill la Kill features the tense rivalry of Ryuko Matoi and Satsuki Kiryuin.
The long-running Naruto series has been referred to as one of the “big three” anime because of its wild popularity around the world, and for good reason. It’s full of action-packed fight sequences, hilariously fun moments, and dramatic scenes that pull at your heartstrings.
With the help of his friends and a unique technique called Spirit, Gun that allows him to shoot a Kamehameha from his finger, Yusuke strives to protect the balance between the Human and Demon Worlds. Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball Z was a gateway drug for many a young anime fan, and for good reason. The series isn't particularly deep, as it basically revolves around superhuman martial artist Goku and his friends testing their mettle against an increasingly powerful and outlandish series of foes.
Main difference is that Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is told in Arcs in order to "solve" the mystery, whereas Another is a continuous 12-episode story. However, give that, Higurashi has a lot of main characters, and character development, where Another has much less than you'd expect.
When They Cry: Higurashi. Maebara Keiichi, an ordinary high-school boy, has transferred to a new school in Hinamizawa, a small rural village. At the outset everything seems peaceful and Keiichi becomes friends with a nice group of schoolgirls with whom he spends many idle summer afternoons.

As incidents around town begin reminding Satoru of a childhood trauma he'd sooner forget, he finally begins to question what caused his ability to surface and whether or not it's powerful enough to change the past.
Higurashi's violence is a bit more explicit and occurs a bit more frequently, but Another offers up just as many chills and thrills. Higurashi's mystery is presented in a unique cumulative story reveal plotline, while Another's mystery is told in a more traditional find-the-clues along the way story manner.

Cheeky Kid has been watching anime and reading manga for as long as he can remember. Doing so takes him to different worlds. When it comes to horror genres and scary story-lines, the anime world is a bit lacking. As a matter of fact, there are only a few handful of anime titles that can be listed under the genre.
Tokyo Ghoul is the newest anime title on this bunch. It caters ghouls and human-eating monsters rendering anyone to the depths of fear. And while there's the staple blood and gore in the plot, the twist is what makes this anime a competitor of horror. Also, this isn't all just about horror.
