As you can see, Gundam can be taken in one of two ways. The flow through the timelines and universes or as a standalone anime. There is no ‘right’ way to watch it. Just watch it however you like. At least now you know where to watch it!
What to watch first: Gundam Seed, which comes first chronologically. What it is: One young Coordinator chooses to ally himself with Earth instead of space. Follows the formula set up in Gundam Wing in which five attractive pilots generate a female audience.
Yes it is worth it, just gloss over Moon Moon. It has some pretty good antagonists. As many have said before it gets better after 20 episodes or so but I enjoyed the first 20 anyways. Maybe take a break and watch some of the short series before watching it (8th MS, War in the Pocket, etc). ZZ Gundam has more in relation to Unicorn.
Between news about tentpoles like Umbrella Academy and Stranger Things, Netflix took the opportunity of its five-day “Geek Week” to drop an even more vital announcement: the company had acquired the streaming rights to Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, the ...

Start with Gundam Origin (2015) and Mobile Suit Gundam (1979) The main idea to keep in mind with the "Gundam" franchise is that its main canon timeline is called the Universal Century (UC).
The classic anime franchise Mobile Suit Gundam has come to Netflix and in a big way.
Nope, there is no connection between them. It basically means that you can watch each one indepent from the others, you basically won't miss out in relevant information to the given selection.

Anime history just got a little bit easier to find. All episodes of the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime start streaming on Crunchyroll today.
Crunchyroll has added Mobile Suit Gundam to its anime library of more than 1,000 titles and 30,000 episodes. All 42 episodes of the series are now available in both English dub and subtitles.
Mobile Suit Gundam | Watch on Funimation.
The Yatate team combined the English word "gun" with the last syllable of the word "freedom" to form the portmanteau Gundom. Tomino changed it to Gundam, suggesting a unit wielding a gun powerful enough to hold back enemies like a hydroelectric dam holding back water.
There are over 30 different Gundam series and films available currently.
No. Wing falls under the AC (After Colony) Gundam universe. Which includes just the anime and the Endless Waltz movie. The main Gundam universe considered by most fans is the UC (Universal Century) universe, which started with the original Gundam anime.
Also known as Gundam 0079 in some circles, just to distinguish it from later series, the original Gundam series rarely shows its age. In fact, we argue it’s one of the strongest classic anime offerings you’ll find. The story is centered on the young Amuro being swept up in the war between Earth and the seemingly evil Zeon.
Taking place during the war in the original Gundam series, The 08th MS Team focuses less on the spectacular space battles and super powered troops and more on the ground forces of Earth. With a rough and dirty look, the series is reminiscent of a ‘80s war film and the action is truly something to behold featuring some stunning animation.
A direct sequel to the original series, Zeta Gundam wisely keeps a few of the classic characters around while building up its own cast. Still, as the show goes on you learn the fates of nearly all the original cast and that’s where the primary draw of the show comes from.
While taking place before the original series, The Origin assumes your familiarity with many of its characters and thus works best at this point in your watch. The origin of Char and several others were hinted at in previous shows but this one finally takes all those clues and tells a compelling story that neatly flows into where 0079 began.
Taking place after the events of Char’s Counter Attack, the series of OVA’s pushes the Gundam universe forward while still including many nods to the past.
A film that never slows down, this sequel to Unicorn sets up another cast of characters all racing to get control of a powerful mobile suit. Anchoring this story is the tale of several friends and we get insights into how their lives were tied into the previous conflicts in the Gundam universe.
A good chunk of Char’s Counter Attack was devoted to Hathaway, son of one of the main characters from the original series. This film picks up Hathaway’s story and starts off with a powerful sequence that feels right of out an action thriller.
If our numbers are correct, as of November 2021, there is a total of 1,052 Gundam episodes. This includes the actual anime series, specials, shorts, OVA episodes and series, ONA episodes and series, and some OVA compilations. The number of episodes for the upcoming 2022 anime series is still unknown, so we haven’t included it in our calculation.
As of 2021, and including the scheduled 2022 releases, there are a total of 35 Gundam movies (excluding the one live-action one from 2000), most of which are compilation movies, though, that simply sums up some of the series in a shorter format.
Gundam ‘s chronology is one of the most expansive and complex in the world of anime. It is very difficult to follow the complete narrative with a guide, which is why we have decided to bring you, firstly, a list of the material, and then that same list in chronological order.
Well, Gundam is a pretty large franchise and the release dates of specific episodes and movies don’t necessarily follow the chronology of the universe.
There is absolutely no doubt that there will be further Gundam episodes and/or movies. We already had a short series in 2021, and we have two upcoming projects planned for a 2022 release. Seeing how Gundam has survived for – now – almost half a century, we’re certain that more material is on the way.
The main idea to keep in mind with the "Gundam" franchise is that its main canon timeline is called the Universal Century (UC). Started by series creator Yoshiyuki Tomino, the early part of the timeline mostly deals with the conflict between the Principality of Zeon and the Earth Federation.
With Amuro and Char's story wrapped up by now, the UC continues to blast through. The characters change, but space mecha war, well, that never changes.
We might have reached the finish line when it comes to UC-centric content, but we've still got some victory laps to take in the form of supplementary series. What's great is that most of these side series offer a glimpse of what was going on during the One Year War without having Amuro and Char in the spotlight.
What it is: Production-wise, this is the first timeline in the Gundam franchise, kicking off with 1979's Mobile Suit Gundam, the very first Gundam show to air. As the oldest timeline, it has the largest cultural footprint and if you've seen Gundam parodies or imagery, they're likely from here.
Why: Originally planned as a 50 episode TV show, then a 12 episode TV show, and finally released as a movie, the pacing is very poor. But if we ever get a Crossbone Gundam TV show in the West (fingers crossed), this will ramp itself up to required viewing, as it explains the origin of that particularly piratelike suit.
What it's about: In the near future on Earth, people of all ages build Gunpla—plastic Gundam models—and use high-tech arenas to make them battle for fun and profit. Oh, and there's a mysterious masked adversary, but you guessed that already. What to watch first: Gundam Build Fighters.
Yes. Why: It's easy to write this off as a half-hour commercial for Gundam toys, but a compelling plot and engaging characters keep it interesting. There are lots of inside jokes, cameos, and references to other Gundam shows, so it's even better if it isn't your first. Gundam Build Fighters Try.
Why: SEED has many similarities to the original Mobile Suit Gundam, while bringing modern pacing to the table. However, it suffers from wooden dialogue and a failure to surpass the original. On the other hand, it boasts some of the best music in Gundam. Gundam Seed Destiny.
One-shot Centuries. What are they: Some Gundam shows take place in their own timeline totally unrelated to any other Gundam show—except for the whole giant-fighting-suit-and-masked-adversary thing. It's not necessary to grasp Gundam tropes to fully understand and enjoy these Gundam shows.
There was set to be released in July of 2020, but was postponed to May 2021 due to the covid pandemic.
46 Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack (1988) The first Gundam movie that wasn't a compilation film, Char's Counterattack incorporated CGI and served as a culmination of the stories of Amuro Ray and Char Aznable.
41 Mobile Suit Victory Gundam (1993-1994) Victory Gundam takes place in 1053 and serves as a successor to F91. The series ran for 51 episodes and focused on the conflict between an armed group known as BESPA and a band of rebels known as the League Militaire.
Considered the fifth official Gundam installment, the story centers on an intergalactic tournament that space colonies use as a stand-in for engaging in war. This shift in the story initially created some dissension among fans, especially because the series felt less serious and decidedly more shonen.
Produced by a Canadian Studio, G-Saviour was Gundam's first live-action made-for-tv adaptation. Understandably loathed by many fans due to its poor writing and failure to capitalize on the best elements of the Gundam suits, the film boasts a sad 3.9 on IMDb.
Every Single Gundam Anime In Chronological Order. The sheer number of adaptations belonging to the Gundam canon is a feat in itself. It's hard to overstate the impact Gundam has had not just on anime, but on pop culture worldwide. As the single most prolific mecha franchise, Gundam is responsible not only for cementing giant robots in ...
This OVA marked the 30th anniversary of the franchise and told the story of Haru Irei, who builds a Gunpla model and uses it to battle other builders in a virtual world.
