4. STRATUS CLOUDS

Stratus clouds are grey featureless layer of clouds that sit low to the ground (below 2000 meters). If they move higher than 2000 meters they will be classified as another type of cloud called AltoStratus. If they really really close or come in contact with the ground, they better known as fog.

5. ALTOSTRATUS CLOUDS

AltoStratus clouds appear as white or grey layer that cover a wide area of the sky at mid-level (2000-7000m). Even though they cover the sky, you can typically still see the sun or moon as a dimly lit disk behind them, but not enough light shines through to cast shadows on the ground.

6. CIRROSTRATUS CLOUDS

CirroStratus clouds are transparent, whitish clouds that veil or cover nearly the entire sky. They appear at more than 7000 meters above the sky. CirroStratus are thinner than AltoStratus clouds. So not only the sunlight, but the desaturated blue sky is visible even when it's covered by CirroStratus clouds.
