Mouths are one facial feature that can really help convey the emotions of an anime or manga character. As mouths in this style are generally fairly simplified drawing them is not particularly difficult and can be quite fun. For drawing an entire face see: How to Draw an Anime Girl’s Head and Face.
Anime creative mouth drawing. This is is a create expression a character can have when doing something like writing or drawing. Anime mouth creative expression on head drawing. While the mouth will look like it’s closed it will actually need to be slightly open to stick the tongue out in a such a way.
When dividing the head with an open mouth into eight parts ignore the extra height added due to the jaw being lower down . Instead estimate where the bottom of the jaw would be if the mouth was closed (as done in the example above).
Drawing the mouth in this way can be used to show a somewhat scared or stated expression. However if you want the character to look really scared you can actually draw the mouth the same as for the yelling expression.
If drawn correctly mouths can really help convey a subject’s mood. They are also the facial feature that can change the most due to a particular expression.
When the mouth is wide open as in this example you will also usually want to draw the jaw even further down than for an expression where it’s open just slightly.
Drawing anime mouths is a lot about being able to summarize something complex into something incredibly and efficiently simple. At its core, anime and manga art is grounded in realism, simplifying it to its most basic elements, and providing flare through artistic license and stylization, visual design, and visual narrative.
Drawing anime mouths and lips is extra difficult, because the subject matter changes shape as it opens and closes, and exists in a variety of examples, all of which serve to buttress the impact of the overall character design.
Anime drawings of mouths and lips take into account real-life anatomy to show us a stylized expression of our world. The fact that upper teeth are more visible with a jaw wide open is reflected in anime and manga drawings and art, just like many other small but important subtleties that help us understand the human form.
After drawing hundreds of mouths you will begin to pick up on certain similarities that keep coming up over and over again. In this tutorial, I will share what I’ve learned after drawing many anime mouths and lips. Further, we will together take the exact approach I outlined above: we will look at many, many drawings and evaluate the subtle details that are used to compose the essence of good anime drawing.
This is why perspective is so important in drawing complex forms from different views, precisely because the mouth looks very different in profile than it does in the three-quarters view or front view.

1. After you've drawn in the head, you're going to want to draw in the neck. In anime women, the neck is usually slightly narrower then the head. For this step, draw two very slightly curved lines coming down off the head.
Females generally have a lot of curves in their body structure, so draw them accordingly. Out at the chest, in at the stomach, out at the hips, in at the knees. They contrast heavily with male anime characters, who often have a straight body and little to no curves. Just make sure that your characters have attitude.
1. Once you've drawn the shoulders and neck, it's time to draw the torso. Leave about a centimetre down from the shoulders (enough room for the arms to start nicely at least) and draw two slightly curved lines coming in. This will be the top of the torso.
The hips should be wider on the woman than they would be on a drawing of a man, and the shoulders should be less broad as well. Draw in a mark for the groin so that you know where the legs are going to start.
Note that the technique for drawing the arms and the legs is roughly similar for both. Draw the thighs. For the thighs on the legs, begin to slant in until they aren't wide. Don't be afraid of how long or short the legs are; just try not to make them too long or short. You want them to in proportion to the body.
Connect the lines to the dot where the chin will be. This is a woman's face, so the drawn lines should be soft. The chin shouldn't be too pointy; instead, round off the chin slightly. If you want, you can also add a soft indent about halfway up the face, for the eye socket.
There are many different ways to draw female eyes, but in general they tend to be softer. For this tutorial, draw an arc. Draw an oval attached to the top of this arc and a line underneath for the bottom of the eye. Draw another oval inside of the previous one and a little circle in it for sparkle. Shade in the second oval and draw in a little line for the eyelid and lines for the eyebrows.
