Anime, also known as manga, is one of the most popular art styles. You can find tons of anime comics, movies, and drawings in general on the internet. The cool thing is that in this tutorial I will teach you how to create your own anime drawings.

Step 1: Draw The Eye

As the first step, we will draw the eye. I draw the eyelashes, usually starting from the left side and then go down to the right side. Since this is a male character, the eyelashes will be kept pretty simple because if you draw too many, it will start to look like a female’s eye.

Step 2: Draw Nose And Forehead

Next, we start to draw the nose and the forehead. I don’t have any exact measures of how or where you start the bridge of the nose and forehead, but you can always correct the lines later on if a feature seems out of place.

Step 3: Draw Lips, Chin, And Shape Of The Head

Start to draw the lips following a downward curve rather than just drawing everything in a straight line. Next, follow the line and draw the chin.

Step 4: Draw Neck And Ears

Moving on to the neck, following the back of the head -line. Keep it subtle just to give a hint of what it could look like in the end.

Step 5: Draw Jawline And Hair (optional)

Here then, you draw the jawline. At first, it is not very precise. So you can just sketch, trying to find the look of what it potentially may become as the final result—just feeling how it should go or how it could go.

Conclusion

As you can see, even though we didn’t have any rulers or guidelines or anything, you can draw an anime face from a profile view just by drawing the face and the eyes first.

How to Draw Anime & Manga Faces & Heads in Profile Side View with Easy Step by Step Drawing Lessons

In drawing faces & heads, in any style (whether it be Manga & Anime, Cartooning, Illustration, or whatever), profiles help us understand the main differences of people’s heads. In Manga & Anime style illustration, drawing the face’s side view is often the most fun thing to do.

Step 1

You can start the profile view of the face with a simple circle. A circle shape is ideal for drawing the Anime / Manga face & head.

Step 2

Now draw a line horizontally through the center of the circle. Now you have 2 halves of the circle. Cut the bottom half of the circle in half horizontally again. Also draw a horizontal line at the bottom of the circle. See the picture above if I confused you.

Step 3

Now draw a line down the center of the circle vertically (up and down). Also draw a diagonal line from the left side of the center horizontal line down to the left side of the 2nd horizontal line…and keep the line going until you pass the 3rd horizontal line.

Step 4

Now we have all the guidelines in place to start drawing the Manga / Anime face in profile view. You can see that the diagonal line that we drew is a guideline for you to place the forehead and chin line. At the 2nd horizontal line is where you start the curve for the nose. At the bottom horizontal line is where you start the lips.

Step 5

Now draw the eye behind the diaganol line, in between the first and second horizontal line (the same space as the ear).

Step 6

Now fill in the details of the eyes. We don’t have a profile view eye tutorial yet, but we do have 2 eye tutorials ( Drawing Female Eyes) and ( Drawing Male Eyes )… these might help you draw in the details of the eyes..basically, draw a large oval in the eye, fill it in, except for an oval highlight at the top right of the eye).
