Mixing lighter flesh colors follows the same basic process of how to make skin color with acrylic paint. Start by mixing equal portions of yellow, red, and blue. Now, you can use white, yellow, or both to lighten this color. With light skin tones, you can add quite a significant amount of white.
Meaning, in most cases, the color of an anime character's hair does not reflect some natural hair color or a racial stereotype – instead, it is supposed to be a hint towards their personality and their role in the plot.

The next step is to figure out where the light is coming from. In this case, the light is coming from the front for clarity.
The next step is to think about where the shadow might fall. The shadow will fall on the wrinkles of the clothes and the objects behind the clothes.
Next is highlighting. The highlighter is applied to the top of the nose and other protruding parts of the face where the light will make it shine. The next step is to add highlights.
Anime-style or Cel Shading coloring is a style that mimics how traditional anime was animated. It applied simple shading without blending to make it easier to animate. To enhance this kind of coloring style, you can use other tools like gradients or effects.
If you want more of a hand-drawn look, it’s best to use a pencil tool. But if you want it to be sharp like in anime, the G-Pen will help you achieve that effect.
For the line art, let’s use a vector layer. Vector layers are different from raster layers. See this article for a good explanation about how they’re different: https://tips.clip-studio.com/en-us/articles/600 You can use whatever pen, pencil, or brush you like to do line art. This time I used the G-pen and Real Pencil.
All layers: will refer to all layers on the canvas.
Close Gap: if set to 0, if you try to fill in an area and there are gaps in the line art, the color will fill areas that aren’t enclosed. However, if you increase the value, it will become less sensitive to small gaps in the line art and won’t spill over as easily. Then again, if set too high, it won’t evenly fill small areas.
Instead of recoloring the whole background, you can make use of Correction Layers.
If you’re drawing a character from a reference image, you can use the subview to show the reference image and the color picker to make sure you are using the same colors as your reference. This is a very handy feature you can use instead of opening multiple reference images and switching through them.
Pure achromatic “colors” are black, white and grey but achromatic can also include browns, tans (light brows), as well as very dark or very pale colors. Achromatic outfits are fairly common in anime characters (black suit with white shirt for example).
Analogous colors are another common color combination for anime characters. These are colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. Analogous colors create a fairly mild, low contrast look.
The shaded half of the color circles represent the color used on the shaded areas of the character.
Just like a square a tetradic is a combination of four colors. These colors will form a rectangle shape on the color wheel.
Having the right color intensity can be very important when coloring a character. More intense colors may be more appropriate for a more cheerful character while less intense colors may be more appropriate for a more serious one. Generally you do not want to use colors with no tone at all color an entire character.
The color intensity is the brightness of a color. It is effected by tints, shades and tones. In the above example you can see the difference between colors with and without tone. Having the right color intensity can be very important when coloring a character.
Monochromatic drawing. Monochromatic simply means one color. In this case the color is a mix of red and blue along with some white and black (tone) to make different color intensity variations of pink. A monochromatic character may be good if you want to create a character that stands out.
But that’s also the reason why we use reference images, so we can see how things work in real-life and then implement that to out anime drawings.
When doing color combinations, I tend to use as many hues as possible — greens, reds, blues, etc. So there are different hues to compare against.
One way to check if the colors are working is to create a white or black color layer on top of all layers. This way, you can see if the values work or not. Is there enough contrast between the colors and are the clothes material identifiable even with just black and white.
I use a fine-tuned brush in Clip Studio Paint to color and shade my character’s outfit. The thing you have to have for your brush (if doing cel shading) is a hard edge. So don’t use a soft-edged brush.
Satin, for example, has a very shiny kind of texture and surface to it. And that’s because the light particles act differently inside the fabric compared to rubber, for example. Sometimes the light bounces off, and sometimes it’s infused inside the clothing.
When you have a cold light hitting the fabric, the shadows go to a warm color and vice versa. When there’s a warm light source like fire or sunset, the shadow colors are cold.
Drawing or coloring clothes is not easy. It’s anything but easy. However, the best way for you to color or draw clothing is that you find good reference images. With reference images, you can see how the colors work in different lighting setups. How colors change on material, or how color works with different fabrics.
