Place the stuffed animal in a mesh laundry bag, zippered pillowcase or pillowcase with the ends tied for added protection against wear and tear. We recommend using the Delicate, Hand Wash or Gentle cycle setting on your washing machine, along with cold water to help keep colors from fading.
A mild detergent, like a free and clear formula or Woolite, is ideal, but regular detergent is fine — no need to purchase a separate detergent for washing stuffed animals. Follow the instructions on the bottle and don't use too much detergent, as soap residue left behind can irritate sensitive skin.
If you don't have a washing machine, you can still get your child's stuffed animals clean in the sink. Hand-washing is also the best method to clean large stuffed animals that can't fit in your machine.
"Put the stuffie in a pillowcase and tie the ends with a hairband or an elastic band," she suggests. "This will protect it, and also keep the ears and tail from being pulled off. Wash in cold water with a gentle, organic, green soap."
Plushies, or stuffed animals, are soft toys that are made of cloth or plush fur. These toys can resemble animals, cartoons, or other things like food and sports equipment. They’re usually produced in factories using sewing machines.
People who own plushies claim that there are several advantages to owning them:
Stuffed animals are often prone to become dirty since they’re used throughout the day for playing, cuddling, or just sitting around while waiting for their owners to come home. When they’re dirty, it’s important that you clean them to prevent possible damage to the toy. Here are some ways on how to easily clean plushies:
Use a mesh laundry bag when washing plushies in the washing machine. This will prevent them from getting caught on other pieces or items in the washer and protect your expensive toys from being ripped apart!
If you do not wish to use the washing machine, then simply wash them all by hand instead! Use lukewarm water with mild soap or dishwashing liquid which will remove all dirt, grime, and dust without destroying their seams. Toy stuffing might also come loose if too much stress is exerted on the toy.
It has been a long day. You are looking forward to cuddling with your new toy, but it is covered in cat fur and there are dust bunnies on its feet.
The first step of plush toy care is maintenance. Regular plushie maintenance is easy and can save on washing and drying time overall. All it takes is a lint roller.
Before washing your plushie, you have to look at it carefully to determine what method is best. How old it is can determine if it needs to be hand washed or just machine washed. If it’s only dirty in one spot, you can just use the spot washing technique. If it has a lot of parts to it, hand washing is less likely to damage it.
For those who want to avoid using a washing machine, there are two different ways to wash a stuffed animal or plushie friend: spot washing and sink washing. Both methods require water, a small amount of soap, and a washcloth.
If your plushie is newer and can handle this method, all you need is a washing machine, a mesh washer bag or pillow case, and some extra laundry. Top loader washing machines with agitators should be avoided.
There are three easy ways to dry your plushie after squeezing out any excess water. The first and best is air drying it, by hanging it in a warm, dry space. However, you can also let it dry in the sun.
The dust that well cake on your figures isn’t going to damage them, but as a collector you should be responsible for keeping them clean. Spending time and money getting these figures will be tough to enjoy when dust becomes part of the decoration. Luckily dust is easy to deal with, and it get’s easier with the recommendations I well be sharing.
Many small brushes out their are usually under $15 dollars, so they are a good way to clean figures without spending much in the way of money. Brushes don’t need to be replaced all that often especially if you are just cleaning off dust. This is something you just buy once and keep for many years. The best kind of brush would be a keyboard brush.
I decided while making this post to do a little bonus and inform you how it is you should clean your display cases
Cleaning anime figures isn’t exactly a challenge, but it is something you would need to spend time on every week or two. At least it gives you more time to have some kind of an interaction with your figures instead of just looking at them. Now that you know what cleaning products/methods you should use you will keep the collection nice and clean.
For cleaning plush toys that can't be washed or you're just not sure how to clean them and want to be safe, use the surface dusting cleaning method . This method will clean the surface and get rid of odors. Place the plush toy in a large zip-lock plastic bag with one or two cups of baking soda or cornstarch.
After washing, place the plush in the dryer on medium heat. The time depends on the size of the plush; small 20 minutes, medium 30 minutes and large 40-50 minutes. After drying, you may use the fluff cycle for 5 minutes. Brush if needed.
Wash separately. Placing the stuffed toy in a white or light-colored pillowcase tied or pinned securely will protect plastic eyes and catch any stuffing that may leak from a loose seam. Wash on gentle cycle using little cool water liquid cleaner for delicates, or wool fabrics.
Plush toys can suffer trauma from too much love and everyday life of being dragged around by its constant companion and best friend. It may also be exposed to animals, insects or bacteria that have caused an odor. If the toy is very precious to you or your child, then you may want to have it professionally cleaned.
Place the plush toy in a large zip-lock plastic bag with one or two cups of baking soda or cornstarch. Baby Powder will work fine also as it has cornstarch in it. Shake vigorously to coat the entire toy, then leave the bag closed for one or two hours to allow the powder to absorb odors.
Dust them off periodically with a clean, soft cloth. If necessary, you may use a cloth and a mild detergent to spot clean them. Place it in the dryer on the lowest heat setting for around 5 minutes. For getting rid of odors, place in the dryer on the lowest heat setting for 5 minutes with a Snuggle DRYER SHEET.
You can easily and safely sanitize a plush toy while on vacation or if it is dropped on the floor in a public place by using an antibacterial Wet Wipe until you are able to clean it properly at home.
